At ADM's Peoria, Illinois Facility, a rather large explosion occurred in one of the boilers. The explosion was heard and maybe even felt by some in neighboring towns. Nobody was seriously injured. How does this tie into railroading? According to David P. Jordan, the plant's rail activity will be shut down for a few days, maybe even weeks. This effects shipments of ethanol and grain for the Illinois & Midland and Tazewell & Peoria Railroads. It is unsure if gas prices will go up around Central Illinois due to the ethanol not being produced. However, the plant may have some products on standby for shipment. ADM's Rail-Barge Transfer Facility near the plant will still be in operation.
