Apply "weathering" to Trainz' assets?

I read Model Railroader magazine every month (truthfully, I just look at the pictures). I'm always amazed at the craftsmanship shown in every photo. Particularly impressive is how real layouts look because their components have been "weathered" by applying rust, grease, and grime effects with powders, paints, etc.

Is anything available that would allow weathering effects to be applied to Trainz' assets, without requiring programming skills?

Pains shop pro v8.1 and your imagination.
Scenery is EZ..locos and rolling stock not so much
I have used textures found right in trains or on web.
Just open the asset folder and load up the textures
to a paint program and experment.

I realy don't know what you mean by " programming skills"?

By programming skills, I meant having to dig into Trainz programming and change the codes.

It's not too difficult for most assets. Some assets can be quite difficult or near impossible, but all that you really need is a good photo manipulation program to modify the texture files. You'll probably find that most of the texture files are .tga format although you'll find some .jpg's and .bmp's scattered around.

I would suggest making a clone of the assett before playing around with it though.

I had to install an old Paint Shop Pro 6 because Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 doesn't support TGA files. PPP6 does.
