Anyone know what the Blue Comet is called in Railyard

There is no operating system that I know of that you can add an exe to a execute file such as Trainz.exe changing it to trains.exe.exe and expect it to run like trains.exe. It won't happen. That is why it is imperative that windows explorer be set up properly to show extensions.

All should; certainly XP and older can. Just tested it myself with Winrar. I could double-click on WinRAR.EXE.EXE and it ran just fine, even with extensions hidden. It even runs from the command line, but you have to add in the extra .EXE i.e. winrar.exe.exe runs by typing winrar.exe.

So you are saying that on your computer you can type in the name of an execute file that does not exist, such as winrar.exe.exe and the file winrar.exe will run??? That is bizarre.

Bob,

The file has to exist, as you would imagine. In Windows 9x, and above, there's an option to hide the extensions a la Apple Macintosh. With this setting, you don't see the actual file extension and you can type another one on the end. I always go into the view options in Explorer and uncheck that option.

How did you guys install the Blue Comet. The "BlueComet_installer" file just opens an "open with" tab with a list of programs and none apply to the file type. Can anyone help me?

Just to clear up a few things here. Many people using Windows 7 and especially IE have had problems because the download exe file has no digital signiture resulting in the file downloading OK but the name is missing the extension so "BlueComet_installer" instead of "BlueComet_installer.exe" and an error coming up saying the file is not trusted. This is why Robert said add .exe to the file and then it will run properly.

I believe Shane has a blog about this issue.

Sorry guys I left y'all hanging. For the past 30 minutes I've been driving the Blue Comet on TS2012 and loving it. Almost forgot I asked for all of your help. Thanks glad I bought this on sale for $4.95. I really appreciate your help.

That is exactly what I am trying say. And if you just type in an exe after the installer without fixing the windows explorer setting, the installer may or may not work.

You are correct regarding my blog - the entry in question is at http://forums.auran.com/trainz/entr...things-to-watch-out-for-and-how-to-solve-them.
