Anyone familiar with M-n-D Roundhouse by BigDave7533?

I want to use this roundhouse in my route because it looks the most prototypical, and it has a turntable for it, but I have some questions:

- The S2 asset (<kuid2:323193:1004:1> M-n-D RoundHouse S2) has a maintenance pit, but says it will require "M&D Roundhouse Hole" for the pit. I do not see this asset on the DLS, although the rest of it is. Does anyone know where it might be found?
- There is a .im for the pit bottom, but it does not show when put on the baseboard. Will it show ifI find the hole and install it?
- There is no roof on this piece, even though it shows in the thumbnail. It also has the roof image and texture.txt, so I am wondering why it is not showing....
- The doors are closed on all modules, but there is a script that apparently opens them when a loco approaches. Does anyone know if this works in 2019 (I suppose I will find out)
- I am also wondering about placing track. There are lines inside that look vaguely like track, but the spline points are for the module itself, so I don't know if the track would connect to the point several feet out in front, or? I guess I will find that out too....
- has anyone tried the M-n-D Turntable (<kuid:323193:1001> M-n-D Turntable) to see if it works? I guess I will find that out too.

Thanks for any tips anyone might have!

One of my favorite roundhouse kits! That said it is also one of the most difficult to assemble of all the roundhouses I've used. You will need to use standard digholes to get the turntable pit floor to show.

I strongly recommend looking at and working with the <kuid:323193:100003> M&D Roundhouse Example Route by bigdave7533 (on the DLS) to get a handle on how they all work.

I was never able to get the maintenance pits to work at all but the doors work well. :D

Dave's naming convention is also a bit frustrating too.

Edit: Just found Dave's dig holes Fwiiw.

<kuid:323193:1026> David Wilburn
<kuid:323193:100032> David Wilburn

See what I mean about naming? :hehe:

The roof doesn't show because there is no mesh for it. I just dissected it and there is a roof.jpg and a related texture.txt, but nothing to attach the texture to.

Thanks Norm! Your response is a lifesaver! Fascinating! I just found the whole thing as 9 assets, all named "David Wilburn" LOL! I assembled a 12 stall roundhouse tonight, but I assume I will have to tear it apart to put the digholes in (I will have to swap out standard stalls and swap in ones with pits too). Then it looks like you also use the "David Wilburn" Feeder track around it. I don't care much if the pits "work", just as long as they look right, I think at least some of the stalls should have them.

Can I just "drop" the digholes into the pit area once assembled? Maybe that is why the roof is not there to start with? I will try all this out tomorrow, if I get a chance. Thanks again Norm!

One thing I am finding though is neither of the stalls with pits have a roof! Does that magically show up once assembled?

Thanks John, I just missed your response above. Well, then the pits may be out then. The pits are just the pits, as they say! :hehe:

Yup that's what it looks like.

I've used the CNR Stratford roundhouse and turntable for my needs. I modified it so I can move it and not worry about the dig hole. It works fine for what I use it for.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually looks better from the front, but it is not as close to prototype. BUt when doing prototype I guess we use what works best, and not always the closest look. Here is what I am trying to duplicate:

And this is what I have:

I see what you're trying to do here. The kit looks very familiar! Heljan, I think.

I think this will fit better:

<kuid:439337:103490> SAP U.S. Turntable with Quarter Roundhouse - PBR
<kuid:439337:102937> SAP U.S. Turntable with Quarter Roundhouse

It's a quarter and not half, though.

Looks like the piece you are missing is <kuid:323193:1023> David Wilburn :hehe: Connect this to the turntable (it will take some practice) then connect the roundhouse section to this "David Wilburn" (more practice). Once assembled you will find that as the locomotive approaches the doors they will swing open and once you clear them inside they will close. :D You will need <kuid:323193:100027> M*D Approach Track connected to the turntable to link to yard tracks.

You may also want to consider don49plm's roundhouse kits. He has 80ft and 115ft turntable kits here https://n8phu.wordpress.com/releases-roundhouse-and-roundhouse-accessories-page/

and he also has a 130ft kit here https://www.thebackshops.com/scenery/freeware/Buildings.html/

These are much easier to use. :D

I thought of those as well and have them installed, but I forgot how to spell his username. It's difficult not being able to use wildcard searches such as don49* or don*. If we had that, we could find usernames and other assets very quickly. In this case I knew part of his name, but not the whole thing.

Usually just don will do the same as *don*, which mabye isn't so much help. I had looked at SAP's, but the roof structure did not look close and it is only 9 stalls. I have a very busy day today, ut will check out n8phu's sometime. Thanks again guys, I will be back in touch!

I got started assembling the TBS roundhouse tonight, but only had time to put a couple of stalls together. I had a system with Dave's roundhouse, shift-move in the front, then ctrl-rotate in the back. A coupe of each and I could match everything up pretty tight. With the TBS that doesn't seem to work as well, and I did a lot of fiddling to get a good fit. Is there a better trick? I will get both set up and then decide which one will work best. Need to get this together so I can scale the north-end curve over to the massive yard! I built this north end it T:ANE but deleted it, so can't remember what assets I used. The big yard was a masterpiece. But I got too carried away with my own creativeness and it got a bit overdone an very non-prototype. So I decided I didn't like it. I also had two other DEM prototype routes I was working on, but now TS2019 is creating great rifts in the terrain on those, so I thought I would start with this model again. Thanks for your help and suggestions guys!
