Any way to allow trains/trams to operate closer together on line of sight?

Good evening/morning/afternoon all! I just have one small question. I have no way of explaining this in a sophisticated manner so forgive me if I descend into typical British mumbling gibberish mode.

Is there any way to reduce the sensitivity of the sensors in the AI system? Like, for example, anything I can change to make trains/trams move right up to the buffers under AI, have trains/trams park closer together together in the depot under AI, or trams operating on line of sight operation to stop closer together, either at stations or red signals on AI? Any advice would be great!

Regards, Jack :)

Hi Jack,

For getting trains to go right up against a buffer, if you extend the track the buffer is on with a bit of invisible track and place an invisible signal at the end, then move the trackmark a bit closer, the trains should stop closer to the buffer. Also, it may be necessary to mke sure the buffer itself does not act as a signal, as some do.

I can't really help with the second part though.

This website with a few track laying and AI tutorials might help: http://trains.0catch.com/tutorial.html

Oh okay thank you! I take it the bit of extended track with the invisible signal on the end essentially makes the buffer act as a distant signal instead of a red? :)

Yes the buffer needs to act as a signal and will become caution allowing trains to crawl up to the buffer. The TM needs to be just close enough to the buffer that it is detected by the train just before it touches the buffer or else it wont delete from the drivers list. As for getting trams nearer each other, invisible signals are the only way as far as I know. A long winded way you can park trams next to each other. This involves moving the driver of the front tram out of the way or have an empty tram. Use the couple to empty tram followed by uncouple, the driver will have moved into the front tram. The next tram will do the same with the now empty second tram. If this is in a depot you need to send the driver from the front tram to the last tram to start the leaving depot routine. The tram left will then be empty for the end of the day returning trams.

With tram sections I usually use the green tramway signal that came with Trainz Classics 1&2, which constantly stays on green and effectively acts as the barrier between absolute block signalling and line of sight :) I could always end up doing this in the depot and just placing a green signal at the entrance to the depot. My main point was that is that if two trams are on line of sight, one running behind each other and the front one stops, the rear one will stop a certain distance from it. Is there any way to change the scripting so that, for example with two trams on line of sight, I could reduce the gap between them if the front one stopped to say, 3 or 4 metres as opposed to the large gap that happens by default? :)
