Any Suggestions For Interchangeable Industries?

Any suggestions on Interchangeable industries I can use on my route besides just taking commodities from the yard to their assignments and pick ups from industries back to the yard? I would like to pick up some tank cars for example at one site and take them 15 miles to another site. I'm all ears.. Well, in this case, I'm all "eyes".. All types of suggestions for various industries and their exchanging products are welcome. The more ideas I read about the better. Will give me more options to play with.

I like doing that and always try to design my industries so they have a start and finish point. For example - Logging Camps to Lumber Mill - Lumber to building supplies and factories, wood chips/pulpwood/pulp bales to pulp and paper mill - paper to printing company.

Coal from mine to power plant and/or steel industry is popular. Your route can get quite large pretty quick when you think about it. A couple of oil fields can deliver to a refinery, with various refined products delivered for use to many type businesses, such as an airport, fuel for your trains and traffic, etc etc.

Really just look at the real world, where does a product originate from and where is it's final destination - follow the process.

Great answer. Right on. Thanks for your insight.

You might want to look at UMR2018, it is very large but there is a text file that gives all the commodities and their pick up and drop off industries.

example: 5/16" COPPER ROD: Loaded in Edison. Unloaded in Ashleigh. Note - Bulkhead flats work well.

Almost 50 products. By neilsmith 749

You might also take a look at the routes and sessions by guilliamsyves he has some very nice combinations of industry services. For instance pick up coal at mine, deliver to powerplant, pick up ash at powerplant and deliver to fertilizer plant all using the same consist. I love things like this.

Don't want to highjack this thread, but I have noted before that you hardly ever see comments about guilliamsyves routes or sessions. His session are a marvel.

I like this type of operations. I once had a Route with a few sessions where using the M.I.Ns, I have to service logging, Lumber/woodchips, Gen Goods, Containers, Coal Mine, Power Plant, and a custom Seaport. Took some time to complete but was completely satisfying. The sessions ran at 3 levels. Session 1 was easy where a single rake ran one pass of the route to collect and drop the loads. (prerigged the industries so that the inputs were M/T, outputs full.) Session 2 was medim difficulty. Same rake, but industries were M/T on all settings and I had to wait for the industry to create the outputs. Session 3 was a short rake and you had to service the route by making individual runs per commodity going back and forth multiple times to complete it. It was also fun as I had to share the rails with multiple freights and passenger trains doing their own things.
