Any good locos for Classic 1/2?

I've been looking for a good CSX or Conrail locomotive for Classics 1&2, and have wasted more than an hour of downloading time on locos that do not work because they are dependent on missing and/or faulty files (and some just happen to be from faulty files themselves). Question: Is there one that really works?

Your life will be a lot sweeter if you spend a little effort to learn how to correct errors. Most are not that hard to correct. Pick one and post the errors here and well help.

Google Sporbust and see what he comes up with. He's got some great locos. There are more around too, just can't think of where I found those.

You probably need to add in the TRS2006 .ja files to get the built in content before adding anything to TC1/2.

A common problem (for me - in TC3) is that many US/Cdn locos depend on an Interior (=Cab) that is not available on DLS (appear to be built in asset on earlier Trainz). Solution: Delete the Interior line from the locos config file and, assuming that was the only issue, the loco should appear. As I drive "from the outside" .......... it's a very satisfactory solution!

It is really worth trying to understand the config of these locos. Re your interest in Conrail - I have Conrail units Dash 8, Dash 9, GP9, 15, 38 & 40, and SD40-2 ....... all running around in TC3. Trainz is worth getting to know!

Nikos1 has some great looking CSX locomotives over at USLW.net.

Like John said you may have to copy the 2006.ja files over.

Also, I copied the .ja files from my Paintshed disc and put the wagon and loco files from that disc into my local folder. That cleared up a lot of the built in missing dependancies for me.

Only his ES44 works (using the GE demo paint). Most of the CSX locomotives have dependencies that cannot be located. Why am I seeing locomotives with dependencies whose KUIDs start in -1? All dependencies starting with this number usually cannot be found on the Download Station, and therefore, may make the locomotive useless. I just need to know why that is.

Do I have to install TRS2006 or is there a site providing the files to others having the same problem? I shouldn't have to waste time installing it if Classics runs miles better than 2006 does (2006 is unusable as it almost always freezes on every computer I run it on).

No, you just have to install 2006 long enough to copy over the files you need, then you can file it.

TC1&2 is by far the unwanted stepchild amongst all Trainz Versions. You may do well to look at 2009.

Can I recode the file to use the cab from another loco?

Is there any site that has them, just in case, for those who don't have 2006? I mean, I have 2006, but the disks have been on the floor God knows how many times that I don't know if it'll work or not.

R1XX,
I had the same missing kuids. I found a lot of them in the Paintshed content. All of Sporbusts locos showed missing the -1 type kuids. I copied over the Paintshed .ja files and put the content folders in my local folder. Everything loaded fine after that.

I, however, don't have Paintshed, nor do I have any of its content. Many of the locos on the DLS, even those with the complete models included, have dependencies of this type.

Neither do I ................ but with deleting Interior from the config and, in some cases replacing the horn etc .......... you can get a lot working. First step is to open up the config and see what the -!:xxxxxxxx's are. If you can then replace or remove them, you will have some diesel locos.

:)

Colin.

Afterthought: I have had minimal problems with Interior, Engine Specs & Horn however, if there is an Alias involved ... forget it and move onto another diesel!
