I believe I have mentioned that I am working on the Erie Railroads NY Division as it was in the 1940's-1950's. Some of my content that has gone up on the download station is directly connected with this.
The Editor of the Diamond which is a publication of the Erie Lackawanna Historical Society has mentioned in his editors corner the following website:
www.historicaerials.com he writes as follows: "This site might not be the easiest to navigate but it goes back to the 1940's in some places with aerial photographs. New Jersey itself is covered in multiple years"
This will not give you great resolution but will isolate neighboorhoods that weren't built yet if cross referenced with your tiger maps in trainz surveyor. I have just started using this resource and it is helpful although it won't tell you what kind of structures to place on a layout it will give you an old street map of the area with topography.
This in website in my opionion is way cool.
