and you thought it was interesting here ...

While browsing some other sites I noticed a strange quiet and saw people tiptoeing around some topics. Then I saw this notice, (names removed and let's keep it non-personal)

"As from midnight tonight 23/1/2011 no discussion / reference to myself, *** or any ***product will be tolerated without my prior express approval of individual posts."

As this is quite clearly an unworkable and inappropriate situation we are now with complying with the initial part of the request and have enforced a complete ban on discussion of ***, ***, ***, or any *** product. This includes positive AND negative comments of any form and any reference no matter how slight. No posts will be submitted to ***for approval, if you wish to discuss their products or organisation you will need to find somewhere else to do it.
Whew, what a way to run a hobby forum. Seems rather high handed but I guess things are done differently in other places. Makes me glad to be enjoying Trainz and talking with the friendly and helpful gang over here.

Remember we're here because we like this manifestation of our hobby. :) Let's all do our bit to keep it a fun place.

Did you read the complete news item? If so you will see that the Webmaster was threatened with possible legal action by *****.

If I was a purchaser of payware for that sim (which I'm not) - I would boycott that developer's products as a matter of principle.

Denial of free speech is a very serious matter indeed.

It gets even better over at trainsim.com, he's threatening (well, more like claiming he WILL be in a few weeks) to block selling his payware to forum members of sites that bad mouth him.

I don't know what happened to his sanity, but I certainly won't be even 'trying' to buy anymore of his products now.

I take it he wants to lose all his custom, he's certainly limiting it down to a select few.

Apparently, it doesn't, I appear to have been banned from there now, even though the last time I posted there was about a year ago. Apparently reading the forums must be against their terms and conditions - I'm guessing, since no reason is specified for the eternal (date ban will be lifted: never) ban.

And I thought UKTS's moderation was insane...

Makes developing for Trainz look a better prospect by the day. Where's my new laptop? Still processing, oh well plenty of time for prep work.

Re the original issue, I popped in my two cents worth on the TS thread, expect I will be added to the list of people being sued. It certainly killed any enthusiasm I might have had for purchasing from the developer concerned - no matter how good the product. Re UKTS, I know I and a few others on here haven't always seen eye to eye, but it has been around for a long time and the file library is useful - even on occasion hosting my Trainz downloads (none there at present though).

The issue re the pirates was also interesting. I have zero tolerance for pirates or piracy having been involved in payware development at one time and knowing what a niche market this is, even the slightest drop in sales could be critical.

Anyhow guess 'nuff said on the matter here as we don't want anyone trying to sue N3V over comments on their forum.
