An introduction

Hello All!

My name is Josh but feel free to call me Rocket. I just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm new to Trainz. I've had an obsession with trains since I was a little firecracker. Now I'm all grown up and about to have a little firecracker of my own!
I have lots and lots of model trains, all mostly HO scale. Unfortunately it's all sitting in storage waiting for the opportune space to be built up.

About a week ago I downloaded TS for iPad and fell in love! I have had a very difficult time putting the thing down. Because of this I did some research and found out that low and behold there was a Mac version of TS as well. So I purchased that and here I am. I'm currently exploring the different layouts on the Mac and soon I'll be checking out the layouts that others have created. At first it seemed as though all the features that everyone was talking about, such as the DLS and content manager etc., were not there. But after a little digging I figured out that it's just not as user friendly as the PC versions, but it's there.

One thing I am unclear on though is whether or not I can download 3rd-party assets and install them myself on the Mac. I have not figured this out yet. Or perhaps I just have to search thoroughly in the DLS and see if those same 3rd-party assets are on there already. (example: I saw someone had on their website a weathered TTX Husky Stack 53 as well as the weathered containers pack to go with it, but I'm not sure if these things are in the DLS, but I'll keep looking)

Anyways, I don't intend this to be a Q&A, as this isn't really the correct forum for that. I did however want to let others know that I'm new to the Trainz community and that I look forward to reading over the forums and getting to know many of you. :)

Hi Rocket, welcome to the madhouse!

Don't ask me how as I'm a Windows user but you can add third party assets to TS Mac, there is a Mac forum, if you haven't found it yet that should have all the answers for Mac specific stuff. Trainz can be very addictive I'm afraid.;)
 
Indeed, welcome to Trainz. I should warn you that once you start, it is very difficult to stop.

Regarding asset downloading, I do have a sticky in the DLS,FCT forum that may help.

Woot! I textured those!

I was actually wondering about that too. I've got a Mac at home that I was thinking of getting the Mac version of Trainz for it. Though, I think there's a lot of content that depends on a certain version of Trainz.

As a side note, Shane, I keep running into you around here. :p
 
Welcome to trainz Josh and remember the forum not always represents Trainz the way it is but how people see it thru their glasses, binoculars.
Dig into trainz don't fear making mistakes and hit all buttons and see what they do and afterwards read a manual if exist and see for yourself you know already more the the manual. that is the way i did it all my life.
The forum sometimes looks more like a zoo with many different species from all over the world flock together chit chat,help, fight, argue you name it but for sure you will make friends too.

Most important remember Kris he keeps the keys to lock and open doors in this zoo but he is a good chap nothing wrong.
Another one is Zec Murphy he feeds the bigger animals but he is the funny one who mimics Murphy's law on this forum many times.

Have lots of fun and write better in English than i do coz I dunno and getting to old and grumpy to learn to do better.

Welcome to the forums, Rocket (Josh) and to Trainz.

I wish I could help you on the technical support side, but I too am a PC guy. I do tech support for a living and spend my time here helping others.

As you'll find the more you get into the program (we don't call this a game here), that you'll find your lifestyle will change. You will have less ambition to do chores like cut the grass, or worse do things with the wife. :) When you go to work, you'll be poking into the forums, and thinking about the current route you're working on. When you drive to and from work, you'll look at traffic jams and think dumb AI drivers. When you see road construction sites, you'll think hmm... Why didn't they use (fill in the blank here...) spline for that, or even funnier think how fast it would be just to drag that spline along and be done with the road! And what's even more fun, Imagineering a scene into a section of your current route project. You'll see a highway interchange for example, and want to put that into your route, or even better fit in a rail line where none existed before. I did that on my own route. I added a 10 mile branch to a non-existing town on a DEM. It took some good surveying and a lot of engineering, but it sure was fun!

Anyway, take your time and don't go too far head long into the foray of downloading, installing, and everything else. There's a lot here, and a lot more here than meets the eye. And above all, have fun. Remember this is a hobby, even though it does become a way of life, so take a break otherwise you'll get Trainz burn-out. :)

Yes, any third party assets that say they work in TS2010 AND (that's important) TS12 will work in TS:MAC, unless it specifically says it won't work for mac.
