alternative to raildriver?

Is there a way I can (temporarily) have an alternative to raildriver for the DCC mode? I would only want something to substitute for the W and X keys, ie a throttle only, inputing via the USB port?

A google search "USB potentiometer" returned some cool stuff.

On my keyboard with the comma, full stop and the ? all in a row at t the bottom I find this more convenient for forward, reverse and sudden stop.
