Whats the temp up here in the panhandle ?

H-E-L-L-O Up There:hehe:

I was stationed at the Black Rapids (Glacier) Remote CRTC-Ft Greely (125 miles south of Fairbanks) Where the dogs outnumbered the people ... there were 4 dogs :hehe:

In January we needed a flashlight in order to find our lunch at noon time. I got yelled at for going hunting at midnight in the summer ... As midnight is lunchtime for Grizzle Bears.

Which would you rather be eaten by ? A Grizzly Bear ... or a Polar Bear (choosing not to be eaten is not an option).

Millitary acronyms are fun. I came in running in sheer terror, and bolted the door with a 2x4, and told my buddies that there was a BBBGB outside ... Whats that ? ...
A Big Big Big Grizzle Bear !

At minus 37 F a guy threw a not so hot cup of coffee at the Sgt Majors van windshield. It came crashing down and instantainiosly crystalized on the windshied. (It has to be at least minus 87 F for a boiling cup of coffee to float away in a brown cloud, when thrown up in the sky).

In summer we painted our windows with black paint to keep out the eternal sunlight ... I etched pinholes in the black window paint in order to make star constelations shine on the opposing inside wall at midnight.

Enjoyed the Alaska link

Fishlipsatwork has several mergable DEMs from Fairbanks to Anchorage

I spent 2 years in Alaska when I was in the USCG on islands with a girl behind every tree (no trees, lol). Sitkinak Island which is one the trinity islands off the southwest end of Kodiak Island and Biorka Island which is 20 or so miles west of Sitka the old Russian capitol. Both were Loran (long range aid to navigation sites).

When I was waiting to change planes in the lounge (all 6 seats of it) in the Juneau airport I could see the Mendenhall Glacier thru the window. Today the face of it is 20 miles up the fiord.
