I am aware of most problems but point them out just in case...

Hallo,

you need to know that the position of the tiger lines is sometimes - maybe mostly - not extact.

In the first picture:
It looks like the river is situated at a higher level rather than following along the deepest position of the valley.
Perhapy ist ok so just for that example, but its always recommanded to check the position of tracks, roads and rivers in comparison to google erth.
This helps to upt things into the right postion. Its is not necessary at al points but if you see a river line giong like this, you should check that. Bacause if the river line goes at a wrong possition - the track line could be wrong as well.
In case of the first picture all three line are may be about 50 meters to far at the left side - perhaps the road goes more less the rigth way.

Conclusion, just dont belief the tiger lines are exact :-)

Your's TUME

Yes, but I know that the tracks and the road are shared there and there are safe houses along the sides, so I think I would need two splines...

and Tume, I know I just layed that down quickly because I was short for time and got lost in the maps... I have google maps, google earth, USGS, and several printed maps setup at all times(I also looked at the topo map and hybrid maps and they match up with the DEM pretty well)...

So, no route pics but I do have a fictional railroad that can occupy the route: The Alaska Eastern Railroad. The Alaska Eastern (Reporting Mark AKE) was formed in 1945 by Harry Valdez(Not to be confused Valdez, Alaska :hehe:), and spanned from Fairbanks to Anchorage. The railroad, now consisting of over 5,000 miles of trackage in the U.S. and Canada. The current (skinned) roster consists of 2 SD45(high hood), 1 SD45(standard), 4 SD38-2's(ex-ltex, acquired through repo and rebuilt to SD38-2's), and an Alco RSD-5 regulated to yard and local service.

AMTRAKwannabe, did you ever finish this route? I know this thread is old, but here I am looking for Alaska routes, and this is the closest I have come to finding one. I grew up in Ketchikan and Juneau, and a couple of years ago took the train from Anchorage to Whittier. Furthermore, we just discovered a tv series called "Alaska Railroad" on Discovery+ and even my wife finds it interesting, so naturally the show has me intensely interested in finding an Alaska route. I bought the 'ALCO RS-1" engine from Jointed Rail this morning. I have a full passenger consist, and just got some freight cars this morning. They NEED an Alaska route to run on!
