AI driver comes to an invisible signal and...

I tried both the HOTT one and the blue pie slice one: same deal.

I did put in an invisible lever ahead of the signal. The AI Driver, Adair, gave me a message while being held up for no apparent reason: Waiting for track clearance.

He is the only train on the entire layout! What is he waiting for?

Adair is actually a stagecoach driver. The invisible signal is on his invisible track before a grade crossing over visible track.

The invisible signals are red by default. RED according to the HUD Display. Adair can't tell that the track is clear ahead fro some reason.

First the stagecoach track was tried as a close loop. Then I remember somebody telling me that signal logic won't work on closed loops so them I redid my stagecoach line so there is a small wye on each end for turning the horse wagon around" invisible speeder turntables won't work, too small.

On my Mojave Sub route which is open-ended, no looped track, AI trains negotiate signals just fine albeit none of those are the invisible type. They do most of the time smartly change the signal when no trains are detected ahead.

Check what is going on further up the track, broken rail, missing switch lever, next signal, and so on and so on. There is always something missing or not correct in front of the consist.

How far does your invisible track extend beyond the crossing? Perhaps the signal is "stuck" on red because the AI sees it as the end of the road. (ie the equivalent to an end of track marker)

about 1/2 mile

is there a track distance rule to make signals function properly?

this is a route which mimics a model train layout: the mainline is in the form of a figure 8 and only about one scale mile

this is a small scale route that takes up a fraction of a single train board

Could it be that AI is not compatible with any of the invisible signals?

I want to try some visible signals and see what happens.

Try putting another signal or end of track out at the end. Then your crossing signal should see the line as clear to the next signal.(end of track) You may need to put 2 signals there so that the crossing signal will show green instead of yellow. Will depend on the type of signal you have. I haven't done too much signalling so I'm just using brute logic here.

Thanks, Pilgrim. Putting a number of signals down the line works. The only trouble now is Boatz ASB controller/triggers is not stopping the horse wagon at the crossing. The signal won't turn red when a train on the mainline occupies the grade crossing.

Unfortunately not all signal are capable of being operated by triggers. Signal BR 4 (kuid:-1:575) and Signal BR 4RH (Kuid:-1:100519), which are left hand and right hand three aspect signals respectively, are both compatible with trigger. Perhaps replace the signals you are using in conjunction with triggers with the appropriate of these signals to ensure your crossing is working correctly. Then replace these signals by trial and error with others more appropriate to your scenario.

The point 'RailPilgrim' made is very valid, the last signal will always appear red. Therefore in a loop you must always have at least two signals far enough apart for the whole train to clear each. In a siding the buffer at the end of the track is effectively a stop signal and in Map View appear as such. Peter

If your route is a figure-8 that's the same thing as a circle. IIRC you have to provide trackmarks to get trains to go round a circular route properly.
