AI disregarding speed limit

I am modifying the Port Ogden Route in 2010 and whilst runing a test loco around I have noticed a problem with the speed limit. For instance when going from a 50mph to a 60mph the HUD will correctly display the new limit but will continue at 50. Later on it will once again start responding to the speed limit signs. The switches have been preset for testing purposes and the loco is running under green signals. Not a major issue just something that I find puzzling. I would be interested in your ideas. Could it be anything to do with the sign being placed in a spline point just ahead of a switch?????

If your train/consist is of any length the new speed will not take affect until the last car has passed the new limit.

The rule followed by Trainz AI and, I believe, is standard practice in all real railroads, is that no part of the train must exceed the speed limit.

So, if a speed sign reduces the speed of a section of track, say from 60 to 50, then the driver must slow down to the new speed (50) before the leading car (usually the front locomotive) reaches the lower speed sign.

In the reverse case if a speed sign increases the speed of a section of track, say from 50 to 60, then the driver cannot increase the speed to the new limit (60) until after the last car has passed the higher speed sign. If it is a long train then this means staying at the lower speed for some considerable distance otherwise those cars that are still in the lower speed zone would be exceeding the speed limit for that zone.

Technically you could argue that the same applies to cars on the road although I think a traffic policeman/policewoman would be hard pressed giving you a ticket because the rear half of your car was exceeding the 50 speed limit when you accelerated at the instant of passing the 60 speed limit sign.

Thank you for your replies. I am testing the layout so I,m only running a light locomotive not a train. However, I did a test run earlier and I noticed that where the speed limits are 30, then 60 then 30 on the section I was checking The loco started at 30 mph but when the speed limit and the HUD changed to 60 the loco carried on merrily at 31. So I,m thinking "Was the AI anticipating the 2nd 30 mph speed limit?" I believe the loco was again running under green signals.

someone in a post said the AI will anticipate a lower speed up to 3 signals ahead. Is that right?

I may say an old problem. I have posted about this several times in the past. Help desk was also on this, but nothing so far. The train anticipates a lower speed limit down the road. No signals or green signals ahead and the next reduced speed signal may be 3 Km or more far away, and the train just goes as slow as that far speed signal! I have tried all combinations, even laying the track in the opposite way (just in case), but nothing seems to solve the problem.

Thanks for your input Llebrez. I have just posted an update in Inn's post "Questions...." who is having similar issues. I am starting to lean towards the notion it is a bug although I still have a couple of things to try. It does like like a 2010 issue though.

I've been leaning over that way too. Let's hope we don't fall over!
