A strange bridgeand some Southern steam

I think whecsailor is making the route.

Starting on the Greenhorn Bridge this morning. Again I only have one photo showing the center of the span so it might not be exactly correct. Darn flimsy looking (ya wouldn't get my butt on it, lol). Its supposed to be the second longest bridge on the line so its somewhere between 330 and 810 ft long. Think I'll shoot for something around 450 to 500.

I also might make a different version of the Long Ravine Bridge (towers in a different order).

Ben

Ok, a different version of the Long Ravine Bridge has been uploaded and the Greenhorn Trestle (a little over 500 ft long). I think thats about gents (unless I missed one).

Hope they are ok,

Ben

it doesn't seem to be up on the dls yet, or at least i couldn't find it.

two 'arched''top''k-truss's', (or should i say 'n-trusses' as there weren't that many 'k' members) flipped upside down, with the bents comming out of the middle of what would be the tops of them if they were right side up, with a very short segment of plate girder between and suspended from them, with plate gerders on latice work bents making the approaches at both ends.

there's a model on the On3 model of the line in the fairgrounds in grass valley, except the model, or the photo of it i've seen is wrong, because the plate girder(s) (on the prototype) did NOT extend across the tops of the inverted k-truss sections.

Hi themnax:

Do you have a photo or drawing?

Ben

P.S. None have been approved yet (but they haven't been rejected either, lol).

right at the moment i have only my vived memories of the object itself. i did go digging through my stuff on the off chance that i might have. so far no joy there either. i do know it was on the cover of best's book as well as inside, fat lot of good that does anybody either.

i do, i THINK have (i know this is getting way off the subject) some pictures of the snow sheds at norden, not the wood ones i remember from when i was there in the mid 50s, but of the precast concrete ones that replaced them in the mid to late 60s when i lived there for a couple of years in the company housing there. (and took a lot more pictures then i still have. long story that too).

I recently put 2 concrete and 3 wooden snow shed splines on the DLS but can always make another one. Just e-mail me a photo or two if your interested.

Hi gents:

The Greenhorn Trestle is on the DLS. Nary a peep about the other 3 even tho I uploaded them before the greenhorn one. DLs acting strange again I guess.

Hello,

I am new to this forum, so please forgive my ignorants, have you digitally re-created the NCNG? If so awesome, how can I get more information?

Hi all

as for the Bear river bridge,,
the first burned up, was not all that high (80 to 90 bepends on who you talk to. ,, of wood

the second was built to also hold standard gauge as the NCNG had aspirations of one day going standard (never happened) she was over 850 feet long and 180 high, the tallest bridge in the west when she was completed. She was built in a completely different location than the first asn the first was rebuilt over 20 times due to washouts of her base. Almost 4 miles seperated their locations. Finally dynamited in the early 60's she still held strong,, then a few bulldozers gave her a coup de gras the next few days. That location is now a lake/ dam.

22000 polys and counting. Built to the exact scale as the real, down to the concrete base, and then terrained around the bridge.
