Hello fellow train lovers,

I am new to this communitee and live in MA. My dad and i have been collecting riding and enjoying trains for as long as he and i have been born. I am 18 and he is now um old (44) :hehe: . He has a large HO layout in our basement that we both enjoy. It is set up as kind of a Steamtown brother. IE: Engines from all types of roads both deisel and steam. One of our favorite trips was our first time to Steamtown USA. He got me this game as a surprise. I was wondering if you can provide me with any links KUID's and other fun stuff for this game from Steamtown USA. Espicially if you have any Berkshires from Nickle Plate or Pere Marquette. Those are his favorite engines. He and i share an amazing bond and i would love to surprise him with a layout in game of a steamtown type of layout. I myself love New York Central and Pensy. If you have any engines questions of any kind please feel free. Any other steam KUIDS and links would be a huge help. Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, KJP. I too are from MA. Small world insn't it. LOL

Anyway, check the download station for Pere Marquette, Nickle Plate, etc. There are content creators that have made locomotives and rolling stock for these railroads.

To access the DLS, you need to use your forum login. Check the catagories you with to search, and put the information in the description. This will bring up a list of what's available.

Good luck, and again welcome.

John

Welcome aboard, KJP1990!

As far as Berkshires go, There is a model in development (search "Berkshire working" in the Content Creation forum), but it is not yet available (good news? It's not dead yet!). However, there IS NKP and PM content on the DLS, search "Nickel Plate", "NKP", "Pere Marquette", and just about any other keywords you can think of, and you should find plenty! :)

If you should need any help, don't be afraid to ask!

EDIT: Search some third party sites, too, for more goodies! :D

Do you know of any good third party sights ;)

another question. Some of the items i have downloaded in the Content Manager or Download Station havent worked they are missing dependencies. Some of the things are 0-6-0's a bunch of box cars and a hand full of deisels. How can i fix this?

Missing dependencies, the bane of many a Trainzer (no, this is NOT an invitation for you to post here saying you don't have any because you tracked them all down! :p)...
Try searching the online DLS for those KUIDS, and make sure you check all the Trainz versions on down to Pre-SP3 (though most dependencies should show up in UTC). If not...then you post on here what you're missing and we'll see if we can't track 'em down (but if you're working off DLS stuff, chances are what you're missing is on the DLS).

Now, as far as third-party sites go... (and in no particular order)

www.TrainzProRoutes.com/downloads (you need to register to access the downloads)
www.trainzstation.com
www.rrmods.com
www.uslw.net
www.protrainz.com
www.checkrail.com
www.steammachine.com
www.passtrainz.net
www.freewebs.com/virtual-beech-grove
www.virtual-motive-division.com
www.freewebs.com/trainzcommuterrail/ (you need to register at the forums for the downloads)

Let me know if I left anyone out, as I'm sure I did.

Thanks a bunch. Now when you say search for the KUID's what exactly do i search for. The same engine and then replace the other one?? Explain please :)

Also, what does some of your content can not be commited mean? I feel verry lost.

Go to the asset that's missing dependencies in CMP and right-click on it. on the list that pops up, there should be an option "View Dependencies" about halfway down the list. Click that, and there should pop up a list of dependencies. Dependencies on the DLS will have the "DS" icon next to them, but the ones that CMP can't find should show up at the top of the list with "?" Icons next to them. These "?" icons are the kuids that you search for on the DLS. Oh, and if there are any dependencies with "DS" icons in the list, hit the "View in Main List" button and download those dependencies.

Now, as far as "Content cannot be committed", does it give a list of assets it couldn't commit? If it does, would you please post that list here? :)

nope no list. Its a message when i try to run Trainz 06 it says cancel yes or no as an option. Also, there are some objects under the Open for Edit tab that i dont want or need to edit. I just want to play with them.

Copy the missing KUIDs from the list--select the KUID from the list, right-click, and "copy", then paste. :)

Welcome KJP1990 to the wonderful world of Trainz!

I see Ferrous has gotten you on the right track, he good about gretting people here and helping them anyway he can.

For your question:

When I edit a track plan I add engines and then save but when I open it back up to play with them, they are no longer there. Why is that and how can I use the engines I place into a track plan I edit?

I made some small alterations to your saying so I, and maybe others, can understand. (No offense, I just need proper punctuation and spelling.:p )

You say you have place the locomotive/consist in Surveyor (The first option in the menu) and saved correct? You then open the route the same way as before but there is nothing there.

This is becuase you are opening the route in Surveyor. When you place a locomotive/consist on the track and save what you just made becomes a session. Sessions can be found in the menu by hitting the name of the route once and a list right next to it will appear. Those are your sessions. Open one and you will fin d your locomotive just the way you saved it!

To run your train go into Driver (The second option on the main menu) and find the route you saved it in and follow the steps above to open a session above. Big difference is you dont have the tools on the side of the screen. Instead you have driving controls.

Also, can you reexplain the whole missing parts thing i dont understand it. I know you right click then click the option to see whats missing. Then what do i do?

How the system works seams difficult at first but what you know what each thing does you will understand.

Let us take a locomotive for example. A locomotive has some key parts to it that lets it function in Trainz. (This can go into a lot of detail but we are only going to scratch the surface)

In a locomotive you can have a horn, body, trucks, interior (cab). These are the basic things you will find.

Each one of these are called dependiencies. They are need for the locomotive to run and function in the game.

To see the dependiencies right click the assest in CMP and hit "View Dependiencies" A list in a box will appear. A Puzzel Piece with a "?" in it means that the item is missing dependiencies. A Puzzel Piece with a "!" in it and which is red means it has broken dependiences. A greyt box with a "!" in it means it is Faulty. Some part of that assest has an error.

This is only scratching the surface though. If you want to learn more about CMP, Assests, Dependienceis and Downloading look at the TRS2006 Manual or CMP Error Correction Guide.

There is a small step into a world with no limits, well that depends on your computer specs:hehe: We hope you will enjoy this hobby as much as we do. If you have any questions feel free to ask we dont bite.

Cheers,
Adam

Thank you very much. The part about the missing parts has cleared things up for me. Sorry about my english. My family is origionally from Montreal Canada and it is hard for me to go from French to English. Sometimes I get sloppy. Figures. I will try the track plan editing bit in a few. I am downloading a lot of stuff right now. I got click happy when i saw how much content there was. I have been trying to finish these files for about 3 days now. Thanks again for the help and excuse my poor spelling/grammar.

No problem about your spelling and grammar, second languages are hard stuff. :)

Also: 3 days? I've been in this game for a whole year and I'm STILL not done finding all the good content! :p

Welcome KJP1990. I also note that you have only UTC, 2004, and 2006. Support for those three has ended and you might have trouble downloading from the DLS without a First Class Ticket. You didn't mention that you had one which is why I mention it now.

This is a 3 1/2 year old thread somebody bumped...that's why the OP didn't mention it because it wasn't an issue at the time...
