I keep looking around, but I can't find a steam whistle with some kahuna's! Anyone know where some good ones are?

A kahuna is described as.........

Kahuna is a Hawaiian word, defined in the Pukui & Elbert (1986) as a "Priest, sorcerer, magician, wizard, minister, expert in any profession. ...

So then your looking for a whistle with a magical sound?

Have fun,

Might you mean "cajones"?

Hmm...I kinda like the whistle that comes with Terry Bryson's old steamers, like the J. W. Bowker. I think it has some oomph! But you might be looking for something deeper.
It surprised me when I first used it because I got used to the whistle that comes with Ben Neal's V&T locos! :hehe:

Yea, such as the Disney Land Railroad engines have :hehe: (Yea I know, bad joke.) But in a sence, a more classic, more convincing AMERICAN whistle.

Yea sure lets go with that. :o I'm loving your suggestion! I replaced Strasburg #90's default whistle with this and it just sounds GREAT!

Wav editor

I found a free .wav editor on the net and have used it to increase the volume of several steam whistles. The volume levels on built-in and after market whistles varies greatly. Often they sound as wimpy as a car horn. I have leveled mine all out - which meant increasing the volume of most of them.

Anyone who has actually ridden a steamer knows the deafening blast of the real deal! Wish I could afford to buy one on Ebay and rig it up on my pickup truck!:udrool:

Also. . . . .

I wish that CMP had an option to listen to a Whistle/Horn file before swapping out a crummy one with a new one! This would be very helpful.

Asset-X from Andi06 and PEV has just such an option. I find it invaluable in finding which horns/whistles I like best.
