Hmm...I kinda like the whistle that comes with Terry Bryson's old steamers, like the J. W. Bowker. I think it has some oomph! But you might be looking for something deeper.

I found a free .wav editor on the net and have used it to increase the volume of several steam whistles. The volume levels on built-in and after market whistles varies greatly. Often they sound as wimpy as a car horn. I have leveled mine all out - which meant increasing the volume of most of them.
Anyone who has actually ridden a steamer knows the deafening blast of the real deal! Wish I could afford to buy one on Ebay and rig it up on my pickup truck!:udrool:
