A simple Tutorial--Gmax to Trains

This is a simple tutorial for getting exported projects from Gmax to TRS2006 Or TRS2009. I did all kinds of searching on how to get this done. It was very frustrating to say the least. I feel kind of stupid now because this process is really quite easy. And it works. This is the way I did it(I know there are other ways).
1) After you get your project in Gmax finished export that project to a folder where you know you can find it. Some would disagree with this but that folder does not necessarily have to be in a trainz folder at this time. It can be in a folder on your desktop. This process creates the manditory files that trainz uses. There are other short tutorials that explain how to export a project out of Gmax
2) Open cmp or cmp2 depending on whether you are using ts2006 or ts2009
3)click on file/new. This opens a new session in CCP. Your kuid number for your project is all ready provided for you This program is pretty self explanitory. Fill in the necessary information.
4)Click on file/save The program intuitlively knows where to save it to. Close the wizzard.
At this point you will have a listing for your project in the "Open for Edit" folder.
5) Right Click on your project listing and from the drop down menue select edit. This opens another menu then click on "Edit in Explorer"(Windows XP for sure-not sure about Vista).
6) Find the files for your project exported out of GmaX.
7) Copy the files gmax created for your projcect to the folder containing your project into (already open) explorer.
8) Close explorer.
9) If it is not already open, open CMP
10) Open the "Open for Edit" folder.
11) Right click on your project listing. From the drop down menu select edit. Select commit. If every thing was done correctly you should now be able to Open up Trainz /Surveyor/chosen route and session/object/and you will find your project ready to be used.
I wish I had had the process explained to me like this. Hope this helps all you new content creators.:)

Sounds like the hard way to me. Why not export to a folder on your desktop, drag the folder to CMP and then hit CTRL-M to commit it?

Thank you Paul, :)

Often drag-&-drop, & keyboard 'shortcuts' are not considered when computing.
There is nearly always at least three ways of doing anything on a computer,
& it pays to use a combination of these various ways, especially with repetitive work.
Not only does it save time & effort, but reduces the likelihood of strained wrists (RSI or OOS) etc.
It makes sense ergonomically. :)

There is no need to make a CDP to get your newly minted creation from Gmax into TS2009. If your project folder contains all the necessary files, config, IM, texture and animation if you use it, then dragging and dropping that folder on to the open Assets window in CM2 will install it. Then you just have to Commit the object. If there were no errors, you can see the new object in Surveyor.
