A milestone

Hello;

AI, (Artificial Intelligence), is an integral part of Trainz. Route builders know that certain track-end devices, are detected by AI. This can be seen in the mini-map, as a red dot. That allows the engine to stop before it runs off the end of the tracks.

I have never liked the AI track ends provided in the surveyor asset pool. So, some digging allowed me to design my own, something more than just a red plackard on top of a white post--I made an American version of that.

I use both Blender and gmax, each has certain features that makes both useful for a certain types of assets.

Though I know how to apply normal and displacement maps, I really see no value in the technology, except where rolling stock is concerned, to enhance details, or on truly large things like big rocks or track beds.

All my trees and bushes are mesh-based--no alpha needed!

So far, I have eight assets built for 2009 native mode. Though I'm familiar with this LOD thing, I won't attempt to use it until my computer starts to act like an old man.

I built my own computer, 3.0 gig dual core cpu, 4 gigs of ram per core, 512 meg NVIDIA graphics card, two terrabytes of drive space, 2006 and 2009 sharing one 500 gig drive. So, I think I have the horsepower, for the time being, anyway.

Shortly, I will venture into scripting--starting with something very simple.

On with progress!

Cheers to all,

srude
