A knight on a white horse MAY save Trainz..?

I seem to remember that when Auran posted their plans they were taken apart with a tooth comb and generally caused more trouble rather than less.

And when they didn't leave the forums to fester, that brought up cries of 'censorship' and 'over moderation'. I guess its the usual damned if you do damned if you don't situation. ;)
I don't think you quite get it.

I'm not talking about the Mods who either do nothing or censor everything.
The Mods are not Auran.

I'm talking about Auran having a presence on the forums, or at the very least, using the resources they have (that don't cost any more than they are already paying..i.e. the rarely used blog) and putting it to good use by involving the community and spreading the word about Trainz.

Funny you only quoted that tiny part of my post.
I trust you agree with everything else I said then?
Nice!

Smiley.

I get it all right, I just don't agree. :)
You don't agree that companies should make the most of what they have to maximise product placement and customer base, especially when it would cost them virtually nothing!?

You don't work for a UK Bank do you? :hehe:

I'll let you have the last word.

Smiley.

My last word is that I have no experience in running a company. How about you? ;)

Well, I was going to let you have the last word, but you asked the question.

I spent 15 years in retail management, and I have spent the last 3 years running my own business.

But to be honest, most of what we're talking about here is just common sense, which is why I don't understand Auran's attitude to their customers.

Someone touched on something in another thread.
Maybe Trainz just isn't important to Auran any more.

:(

He is the coach of the English World Cup team.

William

In the past they had a Swedish coach, now they have an Italian. Isn't ANYONE in Pommyland capable of coaching a bunch of blokes that run around with a round ball to kick it and as soon as they have it, they give it away again :hehe:.

Cheers

Hi There
To all those doom mongers and Grouchers out there having a go at Auran I will repeat what I said to someone in another posting on this forum, "come on it's only a game not the end of the world". In that I mean Trainz is a great hobby which has given me and thousands of others many hours of interest and entertainment. But like anything else in this world where money means everything Auran is just another company struggling to make some sort of a profit. Its resources are not limitless and therefore are the numbers of people they can employ. On the whole considering the very reasonable prices that they charge for their products I think they are doing a great job.

I was one of the unfortunate that went out and bought rail simulator on the second day of its release. Now that product is what I would call a real catastrophe. Within a week it was consigned to the top drawer of my computer desk and it has not seen the light of day since. It put me right off simulator programs for over a year until I managed to get hold of a dated copy of Trainz 2004 and soon realized a what great product it was. I have since gone on to buy TC3, 2006, 2009 and 2010 (by far the best version to date of what already was a great range)

So if Trainz was to be discontinued I would still feel great appreciation to the company for all the great releases they made and for the enjoyment they had given me and would still continue to give me as the various versions would still work on my computer into the future.

The only grouch I have with Auran is that because of them many jobs around the house do not seem to get done as I disappear into my Trainz den on most days to continue working on my North Devon route (uk) extending or improving my treasured creation. My wife of over 40 years describes herself these days as a Trainz widow or Trainz divorcee. When she comes into the computer room she always starts looking in the cupboards to see if I've got some dolly bird in there. She often needs a lot of convincing that I still love her more than Trainz, (anybody else get this problem).

So for me early retirement a good pension and Trainz makes it a great life. Keep up the good work Auran and I will keep going as long as you do.

Bill

I like that phrase

"Doom Mongers and Grouchers, I really like that.Im not sure which category I fit into ,but Im sure some one will tell me.

The general standard by a few members these days in regards to posting in these forums seem to be "I dont like what he or she said,so I'll flame them."

Its obviously something in our makeup,as I probably have been guilty of it as well, but I try not to stray too far from my middle line approach. If I see something that I personally think needs addressing then I say so.

However there are those, who forget what they have posted,or complained about in the past, but they immediately take the moral high ground in some issues, when they have done the opposite, in time gone past when something didnt please them .

That is human nature, and...oh yes,my wife comes in here shakes her head, and leaves muttering.I have no idea whats eating her,....or do I.

Rusti;)

I spent 15 years in retail management, and I have spent the last 3 years running my own business.

I don't think you can claim to be an expert however. I've only spent 6 months as an MD of a student run company (for coursework) and I am still learning. :) No, it doesn't have a webpage, yes, we do have a product thats not finished (typical!).

I think there is a degree of human failing here because we are imperfect beings ourselves. I do fully accept that there are genuinely people who have had a problem regarding Trainz but in life I have often noticed that when there is even genuine negatives in any sphere of life then it reaches the point where it becomes the done thing for others to automatically join in.

Just look what happens in daily life with people in the public eye and positions of authority. You get the bad eggs and before long the cry is "they are all the same". The same parallel can be drawn in Trainz. I have only had relatively minor issues but I would not jump and claim the whole precept is faulty, doomed or need group banging of our heads against a wall. For me Trainz was a tremendous find and gave me the opportunity of doing what I couldn't do in MTS and that is build railways and tramways I have an interest in. The creator of this tremendous thing deserves praise and this is a broad church here in the community. There will be those who just bounce along happy in what they are doing there will be the real techy types who perhaps get a wee bitty hot when something doesn't fit into their mode and so on. They all have their place here. For the faults that make exist by all means criticise but we should try and keep this a happy and co-operative hobby helping and advising each other. This is a train sim not some scientific life-and-death process and I think the vast majority here whilst understanding the complaints that are genuine do get a bit concerned with the tendency to go into doomsday scenario and assume we should all be the same. Well not me nor I suspect the silent majority?

I get about but there are times due to ill-health when I cannot get out as I want and Trainz has been like a medicine to me at such. On top of that I have had text email chats around the world that I have also enjoyed. Indeed I look forward to my sessions whether driving or route building. In accepting those with frustrations they have to realise that they are in a minority and I do trust for that to remain so not in any personal criticism but for the good of the game. So for me and the average Joe here Trainz is magic, brilliantly time consuming and okay sometimes an escape but what a brilliant escape.

Thanks for creating Trainz!

Hi Everybody.
Well said Rjhowie2, you presented in a much better manner what I was trying to say in what I felt was a lighthearted and humorous posting. I was not trying to flame anybody in what I said but merely to put this whole debate into some perspective with regard to the postings in this thread.

With regard to the comment that I may have criticized Auran or anyone else in my postings elsewhere in this forum, well I think if people check they will find that I have never criticized anything anywhere as my postings have always been asking fellow members for help with problems in my route building or to help others with their problems.

As I said "come on its only a game". It is not as if Auran were designing software which affected people's pensions or health concerns and which contained poor programming and faults, then that would really be something to grouch about. What we have in Trainz is a very reasonably priced product which is designed for enjoyment and which many of us find exactly fits this bill.

Once again I will try and put things into perspective. As I said I took early retirement this year after spending almost all my working life in the road haulage industry first as a heavy goods driver and then as training and safety officer for very large multinational company. I am often requested these days to return and do independent in-depth risk assessments or root cause accident investigation which is what I have been doing today.

In my investigations today I found a driver was asked to go almost 40 miles off of his normal route to collect to small parcels which have been left off the schedule of another journey due to a mistake in the office. The driver who had been ordered off his route was then put under heavy pressure by the same person in that office to get back at his normal time so as to meet a deadline with regard to the leaving of another vehicle with the goods he had collected. With the driver under pressure this caused a severe accident at another delivery he was making later in the day where two people were injured with heavy cages falling from the tailift.

The initial investigation carried out by the depot themselves concluded it was the drivers fault for not operating the tailift lift in the correct manner. My report has concluded that the root cause of the accident was the mistakes and inefficiencies in the office and and the pressure they then subsequently placed on the driver to rectify their mistakes. They also did not mention the deviation from the normal route he was ordered to take in their initial investigation. NOW THAT I FEEL IS SOMETHING REALLY TO GROUCH ABOUT, AND I HAVE DONE.

With that said let's get the attitudes and postings in this forum back into perspective. It's a game, it's a hobby, it's entertaining and often it's a good laugh when things go wrong. So let's lighten up here adopt the attitudes in the above respect and enjoy Trainz as many thousands of us already do.

Bill

Thanks for that Wholbr and your answer was measured, light and sensible. just as I would have wished. We all need to be more like this. We might all be thought a tad eccentric by many outside who don't understand so let's all stick together and enjoy this great magic I referred to!
