Quick Summary,

Philadelphia philanthropist Gerry Lenfest has donated $5.8 Million to buy, and maintain the SS United States for 20 Months. That should be enough time to get the money flowing, get in investors, do some painting, maybe open the ship to limited public tours, but for now at least, she has been saved

This comes on the day.....Today, which marks the ships 58th Anniversary of the ships record breaking maiden voyage.

However, this is no where near enough money to fund the ships estimated $150 Million refit, so I advise everyone to become a plank owner

A sad day for the USS United States which is presently docked in Philadelphia.

Over 1 million dollars has been collected from donations.

But within the next 2 weeks, it is to be towed away for scrap, probably off the coast of East Africa, Somalia, to the great ship scrap yard, where they run em' a ground, and torch the scrap heap into teeny tiny pieces, for melting down.
