A couple of signalling questions

Ok first question. Im sure this has been asked before but I cant find any solution in the forums. How do I increase the distance at which signals change their state from red to green to allow an express to run through without slowing? Im sure someone will say it depends on if the route ahead is clear etc or it can be done in the scripts, but to point 1 it is the only consist on the route so no problem there, and point 2 - I have no idea what to alter or how in the scripts so someone will have to explain how if that is the solution please.
2nd question. How can I get a consist to draw up to a red signal which controls a crossing, without the crossing opening until certain criteria have been met? Ie road traffic has cleared the crossing or the consist is ready to leave a station which is immediately before the crossing.

Hi Antony

Q1 - I normally use the SCS2013 rule for creating scenarios but also use the ordinary Path rules. The solution for me is to ensure that the path is set far enough ahead which seems to cure the problem. If it is an area with 4 aspect signalling then the signal will require at least 3 blocks ahead to be clear and if it is 3 aspect signalling then it will require 2 blocks ahead to be clear.

Q2 - I would think that to get the gates to wait for road traffic to be clear would require some scripting to be done. The second part, gates staying open until the train is ready to leave the station, can be done with the ATLS system of crossing control. Boat has a driver command specifically for this situation.

Thanks Bran. for the second question I dont think I was as clear as I thought. I want the gates to remain open to road traffic not rail traffic until the criteria is met. Including at the station. Ive got the gates already operating under ATLS but they open far to early halting the road traffic. What I want is for it to remain closed to trains until the passengers have boarded and then open for the rail traffic.

One possible solution to your second question is to add a junction between the station and crossing using an invisible piece of track and an invisible lever if you do not want them showing. This could be set to diverge from the main route while the train is in the station and only when you are ready to leave do you change the junction to take the train across the crossing. This will work for both manual and AI control with the latter only setting the route when all previous commands have been completed.
