Recently I when I visited the DLS I spotted this:

Note all of them are built in and most of them have the same, sky blue screenshot. At first I thought it's just creators updating their content. Or is it...
You see, all of them have that background, and are apparently for TS2004, which kinds of rules out content being updated, as it defeats the whole object of updating stuff. Plus they have nothing in their descriptions to say they have been updated. Also note the U2G is lacking the tender. All this points to a far more sinister conclusion. Remember those Russian hackers we had a bit back? I reckon it's the same people, saving to CDP built in content (under the original usernames) and uploading it, with the intent of causing trouble. I'm quite surprised nobodys noticed it yet, but people can be decieved. What if they contain viruses and other malware? A new user to Trainz could download them, and have his hard drive destroyed. I call on N3V to look in to this quickly, as it could be very damaging. Call me paranoid/insane/utterly bonkers, but this issue deserves attention.

Took a while but I got your point, as they are built in to 12 they brought them up to the latest standards while still leaving them available for 2004 users.

Now I though I might have dreamt it last night, but no! I've checked.

There was there a post yesterday, from one of the N3V staff, in response to an observation that assets were being uploaded to the DLS “coded as 2004 build items”, saying that, “.. content was uploaded at versions <2.8, simply to save time”.

What is behind this revealing snippet of information? Are the techies still using good old TRS2004 perhaps? Does it continue to have a secret life at N3V headquarters? Do they, one wonders, continue to use TrainzObjectz and other carefully crafted creator’s software as well? Who knows?

Or is it simply as Fran concludes, bringing assets up to the latest standards while still leaving them for 2004 users. Well, damned decent of them if they have, I say.

As deleting the asset may cause other asset to have missing dependencies, we will not be removing any items during the DLS clean up. We do not normally remove items except in extreme cases, due to issues that removing items can cause (including missing dependencies issues). Please keep in mind that the Download Station upload agreement, which you agreed to when uploading, does outline that we are not required to remove any assets from the Download Station, unless they are in breach of the upload agreement, or the Code of Conduct.

You will either need to fix the items yourself (this may simply require some lines to be updated, and will require the build number to be set to a minimum of 2.7) or the items will be made available for repair 8 weeks after you received the email. Note, the repair system will allow one person to 'repair' the item, then it will be marked as fixed by our system. You may wish to find someone in the community who may wish to update the items for you, and you can simply upload them when they have fixed them (it's likely that there are a number of 'fixed' versions already done by the community, who will be able to assist you).

Please note, if the 'replacement' asset does not obsolete the original asset, then the original asset would still be required to be downloaded if it is a dependency (e.g. a locomotive used in a session). If you do have a 'replacement' available on the Download Station under a different kuid number, then please use the obsolete-table to obsolete the original asset.

Not having seen your message that elicited this reply, I can't be sure, but this looks like a case of any updates or fixes needing to be a supported build number. This is REALLY old news... Either that or they mis-understood your question.

For those who aren't sure of the context...

This is ONLY in relation to content that has been flagged as faulty in the DLS clean up system. It applies to any asset that is faulty, and is not based on build number. If a TRS2004 item is not faulty under the current validation rules, then it won't need to be updated, simple as that.

Again, we do NOT require you to update all of your content. ONLY the content that is faulty. Since your ticket was regarding the DLS clean up, my response was ONLY in relation to this.

However, yes, any content that you update (or that is updated by the community, if you do not update it) MUST be a build number of 2.9 or higher (2.8 is permitted for a number of items still at this time, however I can't remember if it is all content or only specific content at the moment).

2.8 is still permitted for all items, but we're quite overdue for the switch to 2.9; we've been delaying it so that SP1 could be release before that changeover occurred. Expect to see this change in the coming weeks.
