Sorry

I must of been too excited when i put in that last message peoples sorry bout that, the two routes i downloaded were the Mccall yard and Toronto lakeshore west route, but whilst i'm still here i'll thank you again for this wonderful stuff.
Cheers mick:wave:

Hehe no worries. I believe that Dermmy sp? made the McCall Yard and I know that Neil Smith made the TLW. :) They are both very talented and selfless route builders and as a testament I have both their routes in my working copy of trainz. :) I usually don't keep many routes so that has to mean something. :hehe:

However, if you really want to thank them, see if you can find the threads where they let us know about their route. It will be hard for them to find your thank you based on your title and the amount of threads that pop up here everyday. :)

Thanks

Thanks for that Gisa how would i go about finding them,or where should i post a thank you,any idea's
Cheers Mick

It's my pleasure Matruck.

Why don't you just send them a Private Message? (top upper right hand corner of the forums)? :) That way, you know they will receive the message for sure. Just PM Dermmy (spelled correctly :) ) and neilsmith749 and I'm sure they'll both be happy to receive your congrats.

Good luck!

Another excellent way of saying 'thank you' to them is by making a few screenshots of the route while you are playing and show them here on the forum.

Thanks

Thanks Gisa and Zwabberaar i'll do both of those idea's i appreceate your replys Thanks.
Cheers Mick:wave:

I think I can safely speak for both of us when I say you are quite welcome. Zwabberaar's idea is very good as it the pics you post will show other people what wonderful routes they've made (seeing is believing right?).

I think as long as you are polite and patient, you'll find the people on the forums are the same and are quite willing to help you if you have a problem. I wish there were more like you...I already have one person on my ignore list and am thinking of adding another. @@

Gisa

I know how you feel theres a couple i would like too ignore as well,i thanked them both by pm,i hope they get the messages ok,i still cant get over their amazing work.under your title it says route builder, does that mean you build these amazing pieces of art as well.
Cheers mick

Hi Matruck,

I wanted to PM you but I think you disabled that option in your settings.

I chose routelayer ordinaire as a pun. Usually in English we could say "dancer extraordinaire" or "swordsman extraordinaire" but since I am not a professional routelayer and have much to learn, I thought I'd just say "routelayer ordinaire". :)

To answer your question, I have not released anything on the quality or scale that Dermmy or Neilsmith749 have but I'm working on a route now that I hope to finish in 6 months at the latest. I have had trainz for a long time, so I should be able to crank out something decent. See this thread for details:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=28684

Hopefully, you run trs04 so you wont have to convert or lose anything when I upload it to the DLS eventually...

There should be a thread on here where people recommend some great routes. You can also try Dinorius_Redundicus' Kauai which is
is quite large and neat in its own right.

Enjoy!

Thanks Matruck, I tried to reply to your PM, but you have elected not to receive them, so I will thank you here instead!!

Andy ;)

Thanks

Thanks dermmy and gisa sorry about not being able to pm back to me i'm not too sure how to set that side of it up,i think it should be ok now though,i get the pun now gisa about routelayer ordinaire,i checked out the thread on the route your building and it looks good to me and i'll download it when its ready, how long does it take you to pick an area to concentrate on.I live between springhurst and rutherglen and on our back boundry fence there is an old railway line that comes off the main sydney-melbourne line, the line is not used anymore so i only have to walk 100 yards but i could never get as much detail in the route as you pro's do,you all do amazing stuff.
Cheers mick:) :) :)

Hi Mick,

To enable private messaging click on User Cp (in white text on the upper left side of the screen) then click on edit options and click on Enable Private Messaging and save those options. I find PM'ing is good in many situations, especially when you want to ask someone something off topic (it's frustrating for other readers in a thread when it gets sidetracked, of "waffled").

Thanks for the compliments about what I've started. I too find route building difficult but I am trying to make something realistic, which means I need to be more accurate (measurements drive me up the wall because errors are bound to happen and it's hard to measure some things). I also want it to look good but I also want it to run well which is a difficult balance to strike (I'm still learning: FAR from being a pro now). All good things take some time too...

If you look in my thread (yeah I know it's long, mostly because of me :D ) you'll see that I learn about several programs you can use to make more realistic looking routes. My two personal favourites are google earth (just type google earth download into a search engine) and multimap.com

Just have fun, try out some routes and familiarize yourself with trainz. It's all about fun if you ask me and building routes can be the opposite of that at times. Good luck to you!

Wow!! Never noticed this thread before!

Thank you very much Matruck for the kind words. Believe it or not, a simple "thanks" like you just gave mean an awful lot.

I'm sure you'll find that most people on this forum are very eager to help you whenever they can. The trick (as Gisa pointed out) is to be polite and respectful (which you seem to be doing already! :D )

And to Gisa - I think your route is looking AMAZING!!!! Pretty soon, I'm gonna be asking you for advice on how to do such great work!

And to everyone out there - Merry Christmas.

Thanks Neil! My route is hardly worth mentioning, but I enjoy driving on the little bit I've made so far. :hehe: I have the weekend off by myself mostly so I'll have some time to do more work on it.

TBH, I'm surprised so few people have commented on your awesome route. Believe it or not, I actually go back to your route from time to time to get ideas, buildings, etc...(I think my route looks like a carbon copy of yours sometimes! :hehe: ). I guess Canadian railroads don't appeal to too many people? which is odd because there are several American railroad companies that are used there and the tracks are virtually the same. That being said, I'm grateful when anyone gives any type of compliment to my route or anyone's route. It's hard to build something that looks good and flows well.

Keep up the great work all!
