I enjoy these pictures very very much! I think these may be the best looking pictures I have ever seen. I am very excited about this route! :D

Got the tracks working. Diesels missing dependencies but have got the two steam locos happening.

Now creating a fictitious state in the region between Sarawak and Kalimantan Barat.

Or I could pretend that the federalists held out in 1950 and the United States of Indonesia still exist in a harmonious but separate relationship with the Republic, and the rape of the land by Javanese and multinational interests isn't happening...

I love the junctions but I got too much of it done with spline turnouts to go back -the geometry doesn't work out and too much fiddling to sort it out LOL.

I have all the diesels working, which bits are you missing?

Not exploiting old growth rainforest timber are we? Or maybe shipping palm oil in those beautiful Russian tank cars? LOL

We're gonna get busted for some kinda CoC violation if we keep this up!

Andy ;)

Decent sized port town, with a big fishing village on the other side of the bay. Oil palms on some of the flat bits but not on the Sime Darby horizon-to-horizon scale. Oil processor on the outskirts of town, figuring what to do with the waste.

Probably do something with rubber, coal is an option (they are building a 660MW coal power station as we speak) though you'd expect recent coal developments to be served by standard gauge. Don't really want to go down the timber path, it would be hard to justify local value-add in terms of sawn timber or a woodchip mill when practically all would be shipped as-is to Japan or China.

The planning is almost as interesting as the building... :)

Cheers
Charlie

Was thinking more along the lines of these for the palm oil, and use the Russian tanks for incoming fuel for the port:

Palm oil probably gets shipped in 20' tank containers!

Pine plantation and sawmill branch on the new module:

That TU4 loco is my absolute favorite loco in Trainz - I love the thing! If one of those ever gets produced in 1/4" scale I swear I drop Trainz on the spot and go back to hacking styrene...

I know I should be using the beautiful animated junctions, but I got too far into this before I worked them out. Does anyone know of a decent set of 750mm/30" gauge junction frog and checkrails?

Andy :)

Beautiful, again. Dependency problem on the locos is the bogies. I'm too busy with work to chase them up for a few days.

Research shows palm oil shippers use large bladders called flexitanks that go inside a standard 20ft container:

From the "there's a prototype for everything" department:

ISO tank containers on 760mm gauge.

I love that container flat - somebody needs to do that for Trainz!

Empty flats (platforms) of the more mundane sort returning to the main line (such as it is!) from the sawmill (and peat bog) branch at the (un-named) secondary terminal of the line...

How do you name stations etc on a freelance route when the route has a vaguely Russian feel and my grasp of Russian is totally non existent?

Pofiggrad?

Seriously though, it's an issue! Stations, trackmarks, industry tracks, junctions - they all need names.

Any Russian speakers feel like naming things? Problem is of course that Russians tend to have a wicked sense of humour and I could get totally set up....

There is a lot to be said for sticking strictly to prototype! LOL

Andy :)

EDIT
Dependency problem on the locos is the bogies.

email me the missing kuid numbers...

Ever thought of doing something closer to home?

Jamie I'd love to! I have started the Noojee line about a dozen times! I know the area really well. In fact I love the area. I used to work in the Warragul - Neerim area as a rural fencing contractor and in the course of my work I have walked almost the entire length of the line, definitely 90% of it north of Buln. In all honesty I have probably seen more of it than any individual since closure, in fact the driveway to my house was literally along the abandoned right-of-way! And there-in lies the problem. When I work on the route I want Colin Young's house to look like Colin Young's house, I want my house to look like my house. And the same for every other house along the line. If it doesn't it just looks wrong. I get hung up on every single detail right down to which tree goes where.

I work best in Trainz with no more than a rough idea of how it should be and just wing it from there. I don't even give satellite imagery more than a passing glance. The whole of East Kentucky was based on a single hand-coloured photo I found on-line. That's why all my routes are 'freelance inspired by....' rather than strictly proto.

I can do US routes, maybe I can do vaguely Russian-inspired routes, I would love to do a Polish route - the content is utterly amazing - and a UK route is not out of the question. But don't look to me to do my own back yard!

I just can't do it mate...

Andy ;)
