22 People Dead After Two Commuter Trains Collide in Italy

Little point speculating, let the investigators do their job.

RIP to all those who lost their lives.

The area in which the accident took place is single track all the way.
The villages connected by the accident have both single platform station (though trains can pass on the "main" track).

So, due to whatever reason, one of the trains left either Ruvo di Puglia (next 2 platform station to the South-East) or Barletta (next 2 platform station to the North) or even station much farther away too early.
Note that Andria and Corato are 12km apart (as the crow flies); Ruvo di Puglia and Barletta are even 28km apart.
Painful situation and curious about the explanation. The black boxes of the trains have been recovered; now to find out what happened.
