i had a random thought is it possible to down the build numbers on 2012 content to 2010? is it possible?

If you mean is it possible to download the built in TS12 content to TS2010 then I would say no, unless you clone it in TS12, change the build number in the config and export it via CDP to TS2010, even then it's possible it may not work. I'm 99% sure that Routes and Sessions built for TS12 won't work in TS2010 whatever you do.
As for content imported, say from the DLS, into TS12 that has a 3.6 build number you could do a straight edit of the assets config in TS12 and change 3.6 to 3.2 or 3.3 or 3.4 and export it via CDP to TS2010. Again it may or may not work, depends on how the asset is built, but I would say there is a fair chance many will.
