Betcha this has already been raised but in looking I haven't found it yet...(Blind as a cricket bat I am):o
In backing up all I have downloaded for 2009 and 2012 into another drive what folders or files do I backup? I originally backed up the "local" files only but when I needed to reinstall 2012 there was a very large amount of assets that did not reappear in the new installation after I transferred the local file from the backup drive into 2012...Luckily I had already saved the entire "userdata" file and used that...Does that mean I should backup the whole "userdata"file in both 2009 and 2012? A large file indeed...Hope I have made sense here ( I don't understand myself myself)..

Ta in advance....

As you've discovered, backing up the entire "User Data" folder works, but it is overkill. The 2 folders you want are Local and Original, both in User Data.

This is because it is highly unlikely that the kuid folders of the assets will be assigned to parent folders with the same name in the new installation as they resided in in the old installation. The extended database repair can figure it all out in the new installation.
