Let's try to keep this a clean discussion guys, I don't want another closed topic. Just saying, I don't think signal malfunction was the cause.

Cheers,

Well, most train hits car accidents is the driver of the car is drunk driving. If it was stuck on the tracks, they would've gotten out. It could've been carelessness (say that 3x fast!:hehe: ) driving over the track then getting stuck and hit by the train.

From the book company's, Scholastic, point of view, they would said "It's 22000! Trains can stop instantly now but the engineer chose not to:p !"

But still, I don't know how it got hit

It's always sad to see another train accident, as most times people lose their lives. My sympathies to the family.

Yet another engineer scarred for life... These accidents just plain suck, for everyone.

BTW, Did anyone hear of the conclusion to that truck/train crash in Nevada?

That's too bad. I feel really bad for the train crew and their families. They'll have to deal with this one for a very long time as the courts drag this out and sue them and the railroad for the accident caused by some driver.

By the looks of it though, it appears that the engineer saw the car next to the track and aimed for it!

I love how the media covers these accidents. I read one report that stated the train was "going nearly 60MPH at the time!".

And.....what? No mention of the speed limit there, just giving the impression that the train was speeding somehow.:o

Sorry to sound brash, but it looks like the cab car is like, "Nom nom nom cars."

Anyway, as usual, the media is screwy and doesn't understand something and still tries to dramatize... :n: Not the first time I wanted to kick ABC's or Chicago Tribune's writers in the place that counts.

All I can say is, they better not try to "upgrade the crossing". Or try to fix the problem with a Horn Ban. (cause that ain't fixing)

People don't understand that some trains hit 75mph easily throughout most of their trips, so they freak out when they hear the train was doing 60mph because they are used to the slow freights that they hate and know. Now, that's just some, I still find people who think it's fine and don't freak out. (cheers to them) ;)

Also, yeah. I do hope the crew takes it well. I know some crews take it better then others, but some just can't handle the stress. So, I just tip my hat off to them when they pass. You never know what the crew's go through. I would have soiled myself if I was in that cab car. It's bad enough around the corners with the leaning and sway, I can't imagine a derailment!

Cheers,
Joshua

Unfortunately this brings up sad memories. I was a wrecker driver a number of years ago and I have had to clean up a few of these wrecks. It is never a pretty site to see in person but it was my job :'( .

Once I had a lady that lived through a wreck only because the Penn Central GP9 and consist was only going 5 mph. Listening to the police talking with her they asked her if she seen and heard the warning lights, bells, and locomotive horn? She said yes, but stopped on the tracks and looked and didn't see the train coming because she said that trains never come from the other direction!

it looks like the car was completly smashed to pieces (forgive my grammer and spelling) it is only hopeful that those who perished in this horrible accident suffered a quick and painless demise. it is a horrible thing to see something like this but we must remember accidents like this can and will happen. :( i extend my sympthys to the families of those who perished

Here's something new, stay off the tracks and don't try to beat a train and you will be ok. I'm sure Metra isn't like Amtrak here where the trains purposely swerve into innocent motorists and pedestrians. Sad part is the family will probably sue and win. The railroads need to start suing the survivors and hold them accountable for any and all costs.

I agree with ya jointedrail(I don't know who or if the entire team runs is)
Honestly, I still can't believe it's been over a century & still dumb people still do what they want so they can beat the train. But, it is still sad to see this happening at least once a month.
