Today, the work and safety organizations would have a complete snit if anyone showed up to work like that. It's sad seeing the old infrastructure coming down, but at the same time it's understandable why they did it.

I guess the work was done before the 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act came onto the statute book, but even then change was slow for a few years afterwards.
