NYCTA! pics!

If beadyboy's items are for TRS2004, then I can't download them off the DLS, I only use TRS2009, and I don't have a FCT.

I have TR09 and I download them via CMP+

------Just copy/paste his name in CMP+ and his items will be displayed!

New Sign

I'm experimenting with a new type of sign for my layout. Haven't decided whether or not I'm going to include this in the released route yet.

NewPlatformSign.jpg

My issue is...there are a million and one different readings for these signs at 468 different subway stations . Since it's a static object--I don't want to make 468 copies, lol. And I don't want you to either!

One option would be to do each sign in sections, like how the above sign would be applicable for all s/b platforms on the Astoria line.

However, once in Manhattan where there are 20+ subway routes, it can get tricky.

I could try getting a script to make the bullets and text changeable...but that'd be a huge undertaking.

What should I do? I would very much value your input!

-A

P.S. The sign is 18" high, by 8 feet wide, spaced out every 75' or so. I measured this for a B Div platform (200 meters), so there are 8 of these signs along the entire length of the platform.

You could do a script to have the texture change for each station.

eg. You place a sign, then you choose a texture for it out of a list of different textures(the sign for each station)

I suppose I will have to learn how to script because I have no idea how to do that lol

Hey A,

Raised in the South Bronx, and taken the MTA in my youth, since I now live in Florida, I can see the issues here -- many many signs -- However, to be honest, go for it -- what do you have to loose but time, and you can always stop and rest, and come back to it since no one is paying you a paycheck for these things!

My suggestions -- for example, the 6 line which starts at Pelham and ends at Brooklyn bridge ... first do the sign and save with a kuids ex: XXXXX:20000 .. (this is your first sign) ... then edit that sign (reskin) in phototshop or whatever you use and save it in another folder xxxx:20001 and so . etc ... its time consuming, but at least you will get what you're looking forward, etc! and honestly, actually, it'll be faster then what you think ... in a week, if you put a couple of hours in a day you can really get things done quickly --

It's the same system I use when mass producing items, for example the Chicago system -- all I change is the kuids and the number, ex 000,001, 002, etc etc ... the config file (99%) doesn't change!

That's the best advice I can give good friend!

Maybe I could do this!

Thanks for the encouragement Ish. I just mapped out the system in sections (i.e. how the "L" line will use the same platform sign from Canarsie to Bedford Av, and another from 1st Av-8th Av), and I will start working on the signs tonight. Most of them are pretty straight forward, for lines like the 1, G, L, 7. The least amount of signs a line will have would be four. In the L example, you'd have one sign in each direction (2 signs), and 2 different sections (Canarsie-Bedford; 1st-8th Avs).

And since some lines run on the same track (the M & R between 36th St & Forest Hills), that reduces the number of signs needed because you're killing two birds with one stone by having multiple lines sharing one sign! So, the overall number of signs actually shouldn't be that many with multiple two- and three-line sections using the same platforms. (C/E, A/D, 2/5, F/G, M/R, N/Q, B/Q, 2/3, B/D, etc).

Excellent A -- You'll see how far in progress you will have those signs!!
:p
Tomorrow will be my last post til a month or so, so I'll get to see some screenies when I get back!

Anthony,

The script for the BART mileposts follows the concepts that a script to make the text on your station sign changable would. It is possible. Provided with the appropriate details, such as the number of text spaces and lines of text supported therein, I could help you on that one also, if you want. :p ;)

My knowledge of the Java programming language has probably gone a long way toward me getting the hand of Auran GameScript. Auran did release the "User Activity Creation Guide" in TRS2004 that contains the documentation on GameScript, but it is probably only really helpful for those who already have some knowledge of a similar programming language, such as Java, C, C++, C#, etc. Learning the syntax and keywords of languages such as those willgo a long way toward helping you to learn GameScript, and then the Auran documentation will take you the rest of the way toward learning the specific features of GameScript. ;)

Regards.

Just some screenshots of a subway station-- WIP. Not sure if I'll release this and make part of a larger a spline pack or not. BStyles seems to be doing a spectacularly fantastic job, as well as Strain on NYCTF. I just wanted to see if I could actually do it--this is my first station ever. I mean, ever in history.:p

Quite a list, A ... !!!

I must agree also -- one section at a time is the best route -- My Desert map has taken me 4 years, on and off to complete, and yet it's 85% complete -- I have modeled it after the Razorback map. Anyhow, you have a decision now, that someone is willing to help you out with a script!

For me, I have always avoid working with scripts because one little thing is all that it takes to throw everything out of wack; Plu,s Auran lovessss changing the rules every time a new product comes out. For example, spline will work differently in TR12, in other words, the script rule will change! My opinion only - better to do it the long way, then using a script, however, learned how to make the script if you're willing -- it's always better to know both ways, especailly that someone is willing to give you a hand with that!

On the stations, very excellent -- make them night mode, tho -- :hehe:

I'll check later tonight before I leave for a month or so -- thanks for the kind words on that issue!!!

There will be more screens tonight Ish--showing off the fantastic work you've done on your elevated set! It has turned my route from great to fantastic! :hehe:
