2010 woes............

I would like to be able to post a picture of this;

This is a brand new install of 2010 with SP1. I am using Win 7 64 bit.
As you can see, every single built in asset is marked as faulty. I thought the download may have corrupted so I totally uninstalled all trainz files and re-downloaded all 7 gb. reinstalled again and this is the result. Does anyone know what is going on here, or do I have to jump thru hoops to get my money back?? The program runs and the screens open but there is nothing to see --- obviously.

Mike,

Select all of the built-in items (Ctrl-A) and choose Revert or Revert to Original in the Edit menu. A right mouse-button click will also bring this up in the contextual menu under the Edit section.

This sometimes happens when the program reads in built-in items that were already installed.

Tried that and it didnt work. I should say that its not just built in stuff -- its every single asset. The other status icon I am seeing is "Unknown location" (the question mark).

I take it that 2010 is a stand alone app and you dont need previous versions to make it work??

I paid £28 (UK) for this and think that this is unacceptable. The advertising says it runs on Win 7 but the database is obviously not working and it cant find the assets. This was digital download not boxed.

Any other ideas please because at this moment in time I have a program thats totally unuseable.

Errors and warnings

That was the first thing I did. It came back with no errors or warnings.
Hi Mike
I had the same problem when I loaded from dvd I solved the problem by select all and then right click mouse on just one item and then went to errors and warnings and as each item validated the item cleared its warnings.
I hope this works for you it took about an hour to clear.

Ironwheel,
I tried that as well and that just puts up an error message "Crashed while trying to "etc, etc.

I would like help not adverts! I have every edition of Trainz since 2004 and personally I thought that 2009 sucked. Thats why I elected to try 2010 because I assumed wrongly that they would have got this one right.

Sounds like it could be a faulty install.

Did you make sure that your virus software was disabled when you were installing?
I have seen anti-virus software corrupt installations of Trainz many times over the years, and it even happened to me once back in the days of the original Trainz.

I would suggest uninstalling Trainz, restarting your computer, disable anti-virus and other software like SpyBot and AdAware (they can prevent registry entries being written to), and then install again.

Before you add any extra content, make sure that this time it's installed correctly.

As for errors in added content, I gave up bothering with Auran moving the goalposts so often, so I only install a few select custom assets.

Good luck.

Smiley.

Tallmike,
Did you;
1......uses a download manager?
2......disable Virus checkers?
3......install as Administrator?
4......register copy with Auran?
5......manually load SP1?

Thhe only thing on that list I didnt do was the download manager. I have a good connection and can download at 800KBytes/per sec. Never had probs before. Im not new to trains I have all versions from 2004 onwards.

Just to test I installed 2009 and trainz classics 3 and both of those work although the content manager on both of those doesnt work. ie, I can select routes and drive scenarios. Im beginning to think its a rendering problem because my old outdated ATI 9600 pro cant be updated for win 7 as they have put it on the leegacy list. I notice when the diag proggy comes up after install that it fails on open GL and when i first tried to run content manager it said "Failed to initiate renderer" and the cmp didnt actually open up. What do you think??

Smiley ---- I am not trying to add new content!! I'm trying to run the program with the built in content out of the box.

This could well be a video driver problem. Could Win7 be using some sort of generic ATI driver? Try downloading the most recent drivers for your video card from ATI or from your card's manufacturer. (Not sure if any ATI cards need manufacturer specific drivers.)

At one point when I had old Nvidia drivers installed I got all kinds of errors with built-in assets. What does it say the errors are if you right click an asset and select View Errors and Warnings? I got lots of access errors, but things might be a bit different for an ATI card. I also could not fully save routes/sessions in Surveyor. It would not commit either in Surveyor or in CMP.

Have done a little research since starting to write this post, and I see the legacy problem you mentioned, you might well need to upgrade to a newer card if the Catalyst 9.3 or earlier drivers won't work with Trainz. (That Radeon 9800 is a really old card.) Assuming that the graphics drivers are the problem, which seems likely to me after my own experiences.

Im convinced now that this is the problem. This creates another problem for me because I cant just update my vid card. The whole computer is a bit long in the tooth now. So I am going to put Trainz on the back shelf for now until I can afford to build my new machine which is an overclocked monster. Im about £200 short at the moment.

Just as a spinoff from this post, I decided to purchase Railworks. Ive heard lots of people say that this proggy is worse than Trainz for errors and bugs --- I needed to see for myself -- what an eye opener!!

Downloaded the file and ran it it installed straight away, everything works out of the box, even with my now outdated PC. The graphics are superb(35 fps average) with the sliders at midpoint and this at large built up areas like Newcastle and York. All routes/scenarios run without fault. The AI trainz never get lost or stuck and the signalling system (modern and semaphore) seems to work faultlessly. Its also £10 cheaper than Trainz.

FWIW, I think I am having the same problem, and I have a current nVidia 8400GS with the latest drivers on XP SP3. Before giving up altogether, follow the thread "TS2010 Still Doesn't Work..."

Edit: Just got TS working (finally!) even with my old video driver using, first, the EDR, then Ironwheel's advice. And I'm actually getting pretty decent framerates to boot! Still, see if anything in the aforementioned thread applies to you. Good luck.
