Tracks Along with Catenary wire and Poles

Dear All,

I'm here with a new concept of Trainz Tracks laying Along with Catenary wire and Poles, this is time saving and accurate laying of tracks along with catenary wires and poles.

I have extended the "KIND: BRIDGE " for this purpose, added catenary wires and poles to the track (3d model) for length of 15m, it works fine, but the problem is track change option is not available in KIND: BRIDGE .

Any kind of advice should be appreciated for developing of 2,3 & 4 way tracks.

Thanks & Regards

I see two problems with your concept. First, the reason for the catenary not attached to the track is because people want their track and catenary to match the prototype. If the track/catenary piece you suggest has the correct catenary, but not the correct track, people won't use it. Second, there are so many different types of track and different types of catenary that you would have to make hundreds of pieces featuring every single piece of track with every single piece of catenary. An example would be having one piece of catenary with one type of track, the second would have the same catenary and same track, except a different type/color of ballast, and so on and so on. This would take a massive amount of time. In the long run, it is better off that the track and the catenary are separate pieces, though that means spending the time lining up each piece with each other.

FP - Track Catenary Gauge - frogpipe
18th June 2013

Description
Gauge to set height of catenary wire. Very useful for elevated tracks. This gauge matches the height of what appears to be the 'Trainz' standard, This standard based on the pantograph height of the GG-1 and TGV (though the TGV is slightly higher)

It is a quick and easy solution but as Jordan says, catenary is nowhere near as simple as stringing up wire from the support structure. If you're doing it properly you need to consider where the periodic feeder stations, trip switches and phase breaks will be so the appropriate neutral sections and transformers can be placed. Modern electrification tends to dispense with the earth wire and instead you have an auxiliary 25kv cable running along the outside of the structures fed by an auto-transformer.

The concept could be useful for long bridges or tunnels though where it is very difficult to get the existing steelwork to place at the correct height.

There are some bridges and stations made this way already by various builders.

In theory this is nice, but the pitfalls as mentioned are too many because in many cases the catenary is custom to a particular railroad company and even sometimes to a specific country. What looks really great becomes useless because the infrastructure is too high or too low and is suited only for a specific project.

Thanks all of you for responding my thread.

Yes, this concept is useful only for a particular project (region). But it can be Universalised by main Trainz Developer, if they do. Need to extend the TRACKS window with some advance features.

1) while selecting particular track from dropdown list.
Extension : A new window with advance features like
a) A Number field to fix No. of tracks laying.(in units)
b) A Check box for Catenary wire, Yes or No.
If Yes, a new dropdown list of all Catenary wire database.
i) A new field to fix Catenary wire height. (in meters)
c) A Check box for Gantry poles, Yes or No.
If Yes, a new dropdown list of all Gantry Poles database.
i) A new field to fix Gantry poles height. (in meters)

or

Merge a) Tracks, b) Catenary Wires & c) Catenary Poles (optionally) and place at the same time

I think this concept helpful to quick and easy laying of different tracks.

Thanks

In theory this idea could work for stretches of track(s) with no switches or crossings in it. I'd be hesitant of using kind bridge though since as of now all spline types need to be of kind track.
It even gets better, as of build 3.7 you can use the new attached-splines tag of kind-track so you can in fact quite easy merge a track with a catenary spline with poles.

Hi IndianTrainz,

Your idea has some merit. But so far special track splines with dropdown lists to select different features - probably by virtue of extensive and highly complex scripting - do not exist for Trainz yet.
It is also advisable that you register your copy of Trainz as soon as possible.

Cheerio,

Hello IndianTrainz,

If your project could be realised, this would be a major step forward.

I did some tests, especially with the asset 1-beton 25m BLP ( kuid 99999:79531 ) ( see http://forums.auran.com/trainz/show...on-52m-BLP-Any-reason-why&highlight=belgian46 ).

I took me a long time to find a method, which is still time consuming, to place the pylon, wire, etc. But I can live with it.

Best regards

Hi Kurt

I have gone through the link, I think the problem is placing the track 3d model in exact 0 to X axis
http://www.flickr.com/photos/97839516@N07/9103600600/in/photostream/

as shown in above pic , for smoothing the track curve , we need to split the 52m into 13*4 parts and join together, otherwise it looks like
http://www.flickr.com/photos/97839516@N07/9103600744/in/photostream/

and there is another problem with track base , if in a particular situation we need 10 or 15 or 20 mts of same track, the track base looks like

http://www.flickr.com/photos/97839516@N07/9103600666/in/photostream/

I have made 3 tracks way along with Catenary wire and Poles.

Hello IndianTrainz,

Thank you for having a closer look.

I also did some tests with the following object, kuid Track with catenary A single ( kuid 117608:60325 ( by Kenichiro ).

But with this asset, as I'm using Transdem, the track wasn't visible in my route ( see http://forum.transdem.de/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=196 ).

What are the results of your 3 tracks way along with Catenary wire and Poles when going into a curve? ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/97839516@N07/9101489433/ )

What kind of trainz version are you using? Did you register your version of trainz?

Best regards

Hi Kurt

The result of 4ways track when going into sharp curve is (http://www.flickr.com/photos/97839516@N07/9106597965/)

I got this copy as a gift, when I'm going to register it shows invalid key, and The Trainz game automatically closes whenever I connected to Internet, I made all these experiments in offline mode, It quite difficult to do all these things in offline mode. I need to buy the new version Trainz for further implementation of my thoughts.

Thanks

Hello IndianTrainz,

I would certainly like to see your asset being used with a train going through a curve ( not as drastic as your picture is showing ;) ).

It could well be that your copy ( given as gift ) already has been registered. I don' t know if N3V can verify this. But as you said, perhaps it is better to buy the latest version ( being TS 12 ). If you decide to buy TS12, be aware that there is also a service pack 1 and 3 hotfixes ( free downloading )

Best regards
