Hello all. I am helping a friend with some research on the Vietnam War. He and I both served in the same battalion and have stayed in touch for 40 years. He needs info on the railroads of South Vietnam during the period 1967-1968 when we served there. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Can't be any help nut i do recall a tv programme here in the UK and it included the railway and said the line was functioning today between Hanoi and what used to be Saigon. It gave the impression that this was the only line though?

I've done a few Google searches for Vietnamese railways and there isn't much to go by. I've wondered what trains run in that country, types of locos, rollingstock etc.

I have seen pics of a small green GE loco hauling passenger coaches.

Wikipedia has some info, both 1000mm and 1435mm gauges run in Vietnam.
