Return to Westhaven... (fairly big pics)

There's not enough room i
Some of you will be aware of my Westhaven project, and it's first released phase Westhaven Trams (more details here: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=3772&highlight=westhaven).
For some time I have been meaning to release an additional session for Westhaven Trams, featuring more variety of trams, and set in the evening. Yesterday I finally got round to it, and the following pictures offer a preview...

Hi Paul,

Could you post some shots showing how you did the more complex catenary, so I can steal it for use in my own layout?

I'd also be interested in how you've kept the cars and trams from running through each other, apart from simply not having them in the same place.

BidMod (still learning).

Wow Paul, those shots are great! You must have put a lot of work in on that route. It looks fantastic!

Well done.

Best wishes,
Padster

Thanks guys! I appreciate your comments...

@BidMod - The main contact wire is the one built into Andi06's 6.4m tram rails, and the poles are by silversmith (which I suspect you knew). The other wires are trolleywire 20m by Jaleel, which are a spline that needs to be height adjusted to match. I've also used one called "line only" which is part of a russian catenary set (I think from the DLS), which is a bit finer. The best way to have a closer look at how I've done it is to download the route from the DLS.

Time for a few more shots...

Lots of work still to do, but not too many bare boards on the narrow gauge line now...

Last ones for the moment...

Great stuff again Paul. Well done. I like the way you aren't hidebound by running only rolling stock from the UK. It is your railway after all!

Best wishes,
Padster

...but then neither are many of the UK's narrow guage railways... ;)

Seriously, I chose the gauge based on the availbility of rolling stock for running both a modern timber business, some local commuter traffic, and run steam trains for tourists. I started with 3' gauge (before the explosion of Irish NG stock), but realised that I would wind up with mostly American stock.

I may well release a 2' and 3' version when I finish the 2'6" version, just for fun...

Thanks for your kind comments!

Paul

Paul, where did you get the new Austrian NG unit from, looks fantastic? Mind you, so does the route! Great work!

Tom

Time for an update I guess...

I'm a lot closer now to getting something like finished. Most of the work on the narrow gauge route is done, and I've got a reasonable amount of scenery done around the standard gauge branch as far as this phase is going. I've not taken many more shots of this area, but this one gives a bit of a flavour (I've added more foliage and details since):

Screen_341.jpg

Being a glutton for punishment, I've also decided to extend the tramway by 3 more stops out into the suburbs (WIP shots)...

Just a few more pictures from the tramway extension...

Screen_349.jpg

Screen_348.jpg

Around the new terminus "Windsor Street" in the suburb of Whitehill.

Screen_347.jpg

Screen_346.jpg

Approaching the "Albion" stop, first on the extension. Most of the new track is street running sharing with the road traffic.

And some more familiar territory (some of which is going in for a re-vamp)...
Screen_350.jpg

Cathedral Parade, with new seating, new planting, and new public art (from a little known sculptor, P.Z. May  )

Screen_351.jpg

Screen_352.jpg

Around the station - all new kmh speed signs to comply with DOT regulations...

That's about the picture limit for this post - more later...

Paul

Thankyou...

Now a few shots along the lines into the hills, starting at the coast and ending near the peak tunnel...

Screen_353.jpg

Crossing the first viaduct along the coast.

Screen_354.jpg

Crossing the next viaduct, approaching Banrock Bay.

Screen_355.jpg

Banrock Halt - this is the first of two passing loops on the branch, and the only one this side of the summit.

Screen_356.jpg

Crossing the Banrock Beck again...

Screen_357.jpg

Passing one of several forestry plantations.

Screen_358.jpg

Still climbing...

Screen_359.jpg

Entering the loop.

Screen_360.jpg

...really running out of captions here...

Screen_361.jpg

Halfway round the loop.

Screen_362.jpg

From above the top viaduct - the lower track visible in the background.

...and that's about the summit, and the limit of this phase of the route.

Paul

The route also features another means of transport. When Cyberstorm released these I just couldn't resist...
... and so a few pictures of the ride down from the hills back to Banrock Bay...
