Hello, I'm looking for blueprints/plans of the Great Western Railway's Hall/4900 Class steam locomotive. Does anyone know of any good blueprints/plans with views from all sides except the bottom? I plan on modeling this locomotive and tender for the game in Great Western and BR liveries. Also, I'm gonna recreate the "Hall that thinks it's a Castle", if you know which loco I'm talking about.

Do you know of any free ones? I could use real photos, but I need them to not be at any angle. I plan on using Blender to make the loco first, then apply textures and ARN. The "Hall that thinks it's a Castle" will be textured separate.

Have you made any content yet at all? The reason I ask is that a steam loco is not the easiest asset to start with. I think one or two people have managed from scratch but not that many.

If you contact me on jwhelan0112 gmail.com I may have some resources that might be useful to you.

Thanks John

Thanks guys. This will be my first asset for Trainz, so I will probably need some help on the effects and moving parts. I also plan on modeling the LNER Coronation train's beaver tail observation car, as that is clearly missing from the DLS.

I take it you have extensive experience in Blender though?

Thanks John

The animation shouldn't be too bad, as there is no outside valve gear. Check out Paul Hobbs' tutorials for guidance on how to set it up properly for trainz. They're written for the old version of blender, but the basics on setting up bones, lattices etc. for wheels and coupling/connecting are still the same.

See also here for an alternative method for animating connecting rods (this is my preferred method, but both work)

Hi Edh6,

I know the post wasn't aimed at me, but I would like to extend my thanks for the second link you posted; I have been looking for a different way to animate piston-rods and cranks than that shown in Paul's tutorial.

I am going to give it a try next time I can.

Thanks!

Kieran.
