is their any way to

1) change the points so that the train doesnt have to be away from it by about 100M

2) change the AI so that it goes in the correct direction, and dosent constantly crash into other trains/ just sit their getting confused on a straight bit of track that has no other trains on it

Have you tried signals and direction markers? You place the signals at junctions and along your line to protect the trains that are in the blocks.

AI Trainz also don't like single track. Try using passing loops with direction markers. At every passing loop, place a direction marker in the direction you want the train to go. This along with the signals will keep the AI from stopping and staring at each other waiting for one or the other to move.
