Slugsmasher's 3ft loco's & rolling stock !!!

meatloaf747

Spotter...
Looking for someone to update Slugsmasher's old 3ft Loco's & rolling stock to 4.5, 5.0 & or 5.3 (if they can't be updated to 4.5 or above, then 3.7 is better than nothing).

Background. Approximately 18 months ago Slugsmasher gave me written permission to update all his amazing earlier 3ft loco's & rolling stock up to Tane, TS2019 & TS2022 standards. Then upload them to the DLS station under my own kuid and giving "Slugmasher" Peter Blakie full credit as the original creator. All of the kuids below currently work in Tane/TS2019 & TS2022, (with the exception of 36ga West Side Gascar) using there original version numbers of 1.5 up to 3.7 - If you just try and change the kuid version number to 4.5 (or above) in the config file , then they all show up as "faulty".

At that point, (18mths ago) I had every intension of updating the lot. Unfortunately a number of things have happened in my personal life that have prevented me from finding the time to do so. I feel like I have personally let Slugsmasher down badly for not doing what I said I would do!!! My bad...

I'm now looking for someone with the time & required skill's to do whatever work/repairs are required to bring this brillant 3ft loco's & rolling stock up to 4.5 (or above), Tane/TS2019/TS2022 standards, so they continue to work in all three version's. (if they can't be updated to 4.5 or above, then 3.7 is better than nothing).

Once all have been repaired/brought up to todays standards, they can then upload all of them to the DLS under their "own kuid number", making sure that they give "full credit" on each upload to Slugsmasher as the original creator.

Please PM me if you are interest and have the required skill's. I can then organise getting these kuids to you if you don't already have them.

it would be an excellent thing if this was accomplished, there is one particualr gentleman who has done really nice things with some of the old Uintah locos, it would be nice if he could be persuaded to do the same with these items....

If they are already on the DLS by Slugsmasher himself, maybe the CRG can upload the updates under Slugsmasher's ID?

Peter Blakie? Slug is Rich Blake. We've been Trainz "friends" for years. BTW...Nothing would make me happier to see all his stuff updated. I'd even pitch in if it became a "pay project"

LOD would seem to be the problem. You need to create a low poly LOD using the same textures. It's doable but I think you need team approach. One person to create the low poly LOD and to spread the load someone else to sort the config.txt file out.

Since it would be a team approach you need to coordinate things as well.

There are a couple of things you might like to consider. First take a look at URY_Flatcar_100, I did a reskin of Bendorsey's work and added a bit of LOD. The bogies are a problem area in their poly count is quite high so you can get a major performance improvement just by adding an LOD mesh.

Second N3V changes the requirements on a quite regular basis. What is error free today may not be tomorrow. Some of my assets are on version 4 or 5 simply because of the moving target. Whoever creates the mesh should be the one to upload these to the DLS. Anything else risks them not being able to be updated.

Currently I think there are at least 600 reskins of my work on the DLS that could do with updating but the reskinners aren't interested in updating them and I'm unable to do anything about it.

Have fun

Is there anyone out there that is prepared to "up version these" and upload them to the DLS under their own Kuid number, giving Slugsmasher full credit for the original version/creation...

I was given written permission to do this a while ago but have been too busy on other projects.

95% of them already work in Tane, TS2019 & TS2022.

If anyone is interested, please send me a PM.

Thanks, Cheers, Mac...

What kind of updating do they need? Meshwork? Texturework? config.txt cleanups? Scriptwork? I`m not competent at the first two, but I`ve got a project of my own that might help with the last two, especially the scriptwork. Unfortunately, my project is far from ready. If there are any that have only scriptwork (or scriptwork and config.txt work) to be done, might I have permission to play around with one of them?

Yes, you certainly can Sir. Do you already have them? If not, please send me a PM with your e-mail address. Thanks,

Cheers, Mac...

Do I already have them? I haven`t a clue. I`m almost certain that I used to have some of them Back In The Day, though, when I ran Trainz 2004/2009/2010.

Excuse me while I go check....ok, it turns out that I have the <kuid2:86661:701:3> Ford Model A Driveable. I can work with that, but I`d rather play with rolling freight stock. (Well, I`d like to play with the car in a route, but use the freight stock for my project.) Editing my filter to see what is on the DLS, and also is a Train Vehicle, I find most of your list, and can easily download it. Does he have content that this permission does not cover that I have to watch out for?

P.S., if you still have contact with him (or has he died in the meantime? Several greats have, and it`s getting difficult to keep track sometimes), please thank him for his great work.

Edit 2: Do you have a list of what needs only scripting work or only scripting and config.txt work?

Edit 3: Fiddlesticks! (Violin bows?) I see that he was a fan of narrow gauge. I happen to prefer standard gauge. Oh, well, I can update narrow gauge as easily as standard gauge; it just will look funny during testing.

My first post has the NG36 loco's & rolling stock that Slugsmasher is hoping to get "up versioned to 3.7 - 4.5" and put on the DLS. If they can't be up versioned to 4.5 then 3.7

At least they can then be put on the DLS. SLUGSMASHER IS QUITE HAPPY, AS LONG AS HE IS GIVEN FULL CREDIT FOR THERE ORIGINAL CREATION when uploaded to the DLS...

All of these work Tane, TS2029 & TS2022. They might need some minor repairs/repairs for them to be up "versioned" to 3.7 or 4.5 then uploaded to the DLS.

I also have a couple of his rolling stock from the 2.0 to 2.7 era, that need repairing before they could work in Tane, TS2019 & TS2022

PM me if you want me to send them to you.

Yes, I will include there dependencies. Any & all of the dependencies can be "up versioned" if you wish & or just submitted to the DLS. (giving Slugsmasher the credit for being the original creator).

Cheers, Mac...

This looks like another copy of the list in the original post. I was wondering if you had a list of which assets needed what kinds of upgrades. I cannot help with meshwork or texturework, only scriptwork and configwork.

I also wanted to find out if I had to worry about the possibility of upgrading and uploading something of his that happens to not be on the list. Is there anything I have to watch out for with regard to not working on any of his other assets? In other words, is it OK with him if I find and fix something else of his that happens to NOT be on this list?

Again:

The Content Repair Group can fix content and upload it under the KUID of the original author.
So if it is broken and you know how to fix it, contact them.

Question I do have:
If the author is still active, why doesn’t he do it himself?

As far as I know, sadly, Rich hasn't been active in a long time.

Perhaps a partial the solution to that problem would be to include a proviso in the config file that you reserve the right to update any item that was originally yours and re-upload to the DLS . I think all creators should allow updating to allow the asset to continue to be used in the game at the event to their death , but no doubt there would still be some who would rather the work become obsolete and unused rather then it being out of their control after their demise.

The rolling stock really just require a cosmetic upgrade as they all work as is in modern Trainz versions. There are a few sound issues with the locos. So not really candidates for the CRG I'm afraid. Rich was a young man in college when he made these items so I assume he is still alive and well and just doesn't have the time for Trainz any more.

His industries could do with some script updating if anyone is willing to take on that task.

We exchanged emails a few months ago regarding his West Side route. I'm assuming he simply moved on with life.
