Legacy of the Burlington Northern v.2 Sessions

All,

I’ve developed four sessions for the Legacy of the Burlington Northern V.2. They are available on the Download Station and are:

<kuid:417385:100814> Legacy of BN2 Session 1: Vernon Switching
<kuid:417385:100829> Legacy of BN2 Session 2: Vernon to Wellington Hill
<kuid:417385:100833> Legacy of BN2 Session 3: Wellington Hill Switching
<kuid:417385:100840> Legacy of BN2 Session 4: Wellington Hill to Vernon

I call the four sessions the Vernon to Wellington Hill Turn and used T:ANE Build 88348 to make the sessions.

I attempted to make sure that the only payware in the sessions was from the LoBN V.2 but no guarantees. I did not get an email from N3V saying that there were assets that were not on the DLS but that doesn’t mean that all the assets are available to everyone (as I’ve learned).

I’ve used Shane Turner’s weather changer and set the time for a change to two minutes. I mention this because you can be waiting for the perfect screenshot during clear weather and, bang, the weather goes to stormy with the resulting reduced visibility and ruining the shot. It’s also disconcerting when you’re closing in on a delicate car coupling and visibility goes suddenly to zip. Keeps you on your toes. I did not add any weather effects in the rule but you can if you’d like.

Also, for you that haven’t had the fun of the double slip switches at the west end of Vernon, you are hereby warned. You might want to save the last session (the Wellington Hill to Vernon session) right as you come into Vernon just in case (I’m glad I did as I screwed the switch settings up the last test run).

The method I describe to get the woodchip cars loaded in the first session was what I found to work. The industry cannot be set to have enough initial product to fill all the cars so it must refill which takes about one minute. Since I never saw the loader start loading after the refill if the half-loaded car was still underneath the load point, I reasoned that the loading sequence is triggered by a car moving underneath the loader that has a less than full load. Hence, my note about moving the half-loaded car away from the loader and then back to complete loading. Again, this is what I found to work but there might be other work arounds. (Not complaining ; just the way it is.)

There are many great points for beautiful screenshot during the sessions as the route really is spectacular. I admit I got the same feeling of anticipation as I do railfanning while waiting for the train to show up as when I went with the free roam camera mode and positioned the camera on the far side of a bridge waiting for the train to come around the corner so I can get the perfect screenshot. Fun stuff.

Hope you all enjoy the sessions.

Take care,

G'day Don,

Many thanks for these sessions. It's great to have more content for good routes, and I like the way you've broken down the separate stages of the day's operations into the different sessions.

Unfortunately though, I'm having some problems with them. I've tried the Vernon Switching and Vernon to Wellington Hill sessions (so far) and both seem to have issues with the bulkhead flatcars. In both, only one of (what I assume is meant to be) four cars display. In the switching session, if I try to couple to the visible car, I get a "train Derailed" message as I pass through the empty space in front of it. In the Vernon to Wellington Hill session, the consist at the beginning shows up as; Loco, Loco, space, space, flatcar, space, remaining consist as expected. The consist won't move when I try to drive the locos but, if I try to move the whole consist in the editing pane (if I was trying to add or remove rolling stock etc), the entire consist moves as if it was all there.

I ran a View Errors and Warnings on the four sessions and I get the following too.

Why not make sessions with ONLY things that are already included in the route.
Without adding new assets to find on the dls or internet.

This sessions needed so much new stuff that I killed them before I could play them.

I bought the route (JR), all well, nothing missing.
So why I need all the new things?

Thanks for that info Colin.

Are they part of the BN part 1 route? I don't see them elsewhere on the JR site.

I downloaded the BN Pt 1 dependencies (not the route), but that hasn't fixed my issue with the BN Pt 2 sessions.

Piere,

I checked in the Legacy of the Burlingtion Northern's (the original one) "Hard days work, Deliver Spruce logs to Vernon" session dependancies and came up with this for the BN cars:

<kuid:506034:345751> BN 60Ft.9In. Woodchip Car
<kuid:506034:345752> BN 60Ft.9In. Woodchip Car weathered
<kuid2:506034:621608:1> BN 62Ft. Bulkhead (early era)
<kuid:506034:621609> BN 62Ft. Bulkhead 621630
<kuid:506034:621610> BN 62Ft. Bulkhead 621614

so that's where those cars came from.

I then checked the Legacy of the Burlington Northern v.2 "West Clyde Sawmill" session and of the above only:

<kuid2:506034:621608:1> BN 62Ft. Bulkhead (early era)

was used.

Sorry about that. My check of the assets was, well, poor. I'll try to get to revising the sessions this weekend (no promises as I am revising some of my scenery content for upload) and will get back to you all to tell you when they are available. I'll have to test run the sessions again after changing out the cars to make sure they still work.

Take care,

While working on the session updates I came across these cars that don't have an upload date so are (apparently) not on the DLS:

<kuid2:175455:100168:3> 52ft Gondola HBRX 2
<kuid2:175455:100175:3> 52ft Gondola NOKL 1
<kuid2:175455:100177:3> 52ft Gondola GONX 1
<kuid2:175455:100182:3> 52ft Gondola DJJX
<kuid2:175455:100210:3> 52ft Gondola PRR
<kuid2:175455:100271:3> 52ft Gondola CIRR
<kuid2:334896:200058:3> 52ft Gondola HBRX 1

Are these Jointed Rail cars or from somewhere else?

I checked my TS12 content and they aren't in there so apparently they've come from some content I've gotten with T:ANE. The installation date on my computer doesn't help as it's the date I installed the game and content on my new computer.

Thanks in advance,

Ok, the sessions have been update to include only LotBNv2 bulkhead flatcars and woodchip cars from the DLS needed for the sessions to work and are now available for download.

<kuid:417385:100928> Legacy of BN2 Session 4: Wellington Hill to Vernon Ver. 1.1
<kuid:417385:100929> Legacy of BN2 Session 3: Wellington Hill Switching Ver. 1.1
<kuid:417385:100930> Legacy of BN2 Session 2: Vernon to Wellington Hill Ver. 1.1
<kuid:417385:100931> Legacy of BN2 Session 1: Vernon Switching Ver. 1.1

Note: These sessions are for those that only have the Legacy of the Burlington Northern v.2 and not both the original Legacy of the Brulington Northern routes. If you have the orignal LotBN route then you can download the initial versions as they have bulkhead flatcars and woodchip cars from that route included in the sessions.

Also, the gondola cars can be found at: http://jointedrail.com/product/gondola-packs-updated-4-11-13/

Even if you don't download the sessions, get the gondolas (if you don't already have them) as they are very nice cars.

Sorry for the mixup. I'm learning everytime I do this.

Take care and enjoy the sessions,

I've done all four sessions. They worked well. I wasn't quite sure about the weather rule though, weather changes seemed too sudden and drastic. Which route are you going to use next?

Yes, I made the sessions to tell a story, hence the numbers 1,2,. . etc. Make up the train, take it somewhere, do something with it at the "turn" destinatiion and make another train, take the train back to the origination. That's why it's called a "turn".

Heh, yeah, I warned you all about the weather. Note that if the weather rule gives you problems you can edit the session and then edit the weather rule. I have "Stormy Weather" set at 15% in the sessions. You can reduce that amount down to zero if you want (uncheck the box).

As for the next route I might work with for sessions, I'm playing around with Coal Country some but nothing fully developed yet.

I'm mainly working the last few days on a bunch of assets I've made and making so I can upload them.

Take care and thanks for the feedbck,

G'day Don,

Thank you very much for taking the time to re-work your sessions for those of us without both routes.

I haven't had a chance to run them yet but I am looking forward to it. As I said, I appreciate the chance to get extra sessions for good routes like this, and I do like the way you've broken up the day's run into the different sessions that follow on from each other.

Thanks again.

Cheers,
Piere.

One question, Piere, your version icon show you have T:ANE Standard. If I read the JR website correctly, the LotBNv2 (and the original one for that matter) is made for T:ANE Deluxe. Do you have the Deluxe version? If so, you need to get the Help Desk to change you icon.

Take care,

G'day Don,

I believe I bought the Deluxe version but I don't know how to go about changing that in my profile.

I also can't seem to see any info about which version I bought, or a serial number against my account on "MyTrainz" either. Not sure what the issue is.

Cheers,
Piere.

I have Tane Standard and it works fine for me.

DWBennett55,

Even though a bit of extra DL is needed for your sessions, I am enjoying them very much...I hope you continue releasing for this route.

Piere, Look at the opening T:ANE screen (before you open or run anything) and note the Build number in the lower left of the panel. Then go here:

https://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?129006-Unofficial-T-ANE-PC-Version-Patch-Flowchart

and scroll down to find your Build number. You'll know if you have the Standard version with a TNPS version number or the Deluxe version if it's a TNPD version number.

Shane Turner does a great job of explaining the post and how to patch the game also.

If you do have the Deluxe version you'll have to submit a ticket to the Help Desk to have them change it (I had to).

Take care,

Glad you're having fun with them. I don't know when I'll get back to that route. I'm working on content right now and don't know when I'll be done.

As I explain before (somewhere if not here in this thread, can't remember) a bunch of empty track just doesn't look right in a Driver session. I like to add a variety of cars from different railroads to give some color to the route and something to look at besides track. This is a railroad simulatior not just a rail simulator.

Plus, the rolling stock that came with LotBNv2 didn't have woodchip or gondola cars so if we want to use those industries in a sessiions we have to go outside the routes build-in content. Hence, my initial mistake in using the BN woodchip cars from LotBN. I had to update the sessions (see earlier posts) to get woodchip cars from the DLS so people that had only the LofBNv2 route could drive the sessions.

And since we're really not using unit trains here, using cars from different roads is fine. When I'm watching trains for real with a string of, say, gray painted covered-hoppers going by and the only variety is the railroad reporting marks, well, that does get a little boring. Seeing a different colored car is almost a surprise.

Take care,

You can set the EIRS-STE Weather Rule to execute 1x only off a few triggers placed around several areas of the map. This will still give the random weather effects but also allows you to control where you want weather to change. Cycling the weather at 2 minute intervals is a default setting for testing the rule, not game play.

Regards,

Vaughn
