TRS19 Content delivery strategy causing major route development problems

I have sc454 and sc454p packages installed, but none of them contains <kuid2:58422:9730001:5>. It grows even more bizarre day after day!

Probably there was, for a short time, a package available having an incorrect name (the content fix for TRS19). The original (correct) sc454 is a russian locomotive.

Try deleting or just removing the sc454 packages and see if the TRS19 fix one then downloads? that will be just the one package as in sc454 and not sc454p.

I already tried this a few hours ago and the packages had exactly the same content than the ones I deleted before. The mystery remains unsolved...

Sadly ECML EDINBURGH - DUNDEE isn't freeware it's $39.99 (at least for me) so I'll have missing trees <kuid:661281:75013>,<kuid:661281:75012> in the Cattaraugus Creek & Lake Erie :(

I can easily "roll" fake ones, any suggestions for what to use as a substitute? I don't want to upset the aesthetic or bury something.

(Side note, I made an obnoxious big dayglow yellow cone which I use as a "fake" so I can select and replace in surveyor on occasion)

Those trees are tree broadleaf 01 and 02 which can be found built in under kuid:523:1194 and 1196.

This is a problem which remains still unresolved by N3V to this day. Any piece of content, regardless of what package it is in, should also be on the DLS to prevent this problem from occurring and not cause problems for us route developers. BTW I reported this problem to N3V in this thread in May 2019......

When are you all at N3V finally going to resolve this issue?

Bob

Sorry to bring this up again, just thought it might be good to revisit, in case something has changed in six months since this was last discussed.

I have recently released a freeware trs19 route and ran into this issue of items I used in the route being from dlc packs yet older versions exist on the DLS. As a result users who downloaded my route had mixed results with assets being marked as unknown.

Is there a way for end-users of routes to roll back/replace these items?

Is there a way as a route creator to tell trainz to use a certain version of an asset for a route, even when a newer version is installed locally? Can we get such an override ability if not?

Finally, has N3V come up with a solution for this? I understand if not, with the pandemic still affecting all of us, it makes it difficult and we are all trying to catch up after a forced hiatus.

Thanks
Walter (aka whamm0)

Hence my suggestion of the "Suggestions' forum. Content manager needs to include an option to allow user's to select ("replace") an 'unknown' kuid with an earlier known version of that kuid.

Thanks Phil. I added to that thread as well. Hopefully it helps encourage this idea to be added to the trainz improvement to do list so it can eventually be implemented.

I have collection of tall red flag models that I assign the KUID numbers of missings/unknowns/payware so I can find where they are and replace them. But it is a problem in TS2019 that something needs to be done about. I used to simply take the earlier version of an payware asset out of either TS2009 and TS2012 and bump it up one number higher than the payware asset until I realised that if I upload a route/layout that uses the modded asset I would be causing a problem for anyone who downloads my route/layout.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons why I still mostly use TS2012 as my everyday Trainz version and only use TS2019 to test anything I intend to upload.

TRS19 content delivery strategy is still causing major route development and use problems.

This issue was first addressed on the forum way back in July of 2019. N3V said at the time:

“Just so this doesn't get further out of hand, we're aware of the thread and discussing an appropriate detailed response. We'll make a post outlining all the details when it is ready.

Meanwhile, please be assured there is no intention or desire to turn DLS content in DLC/payware content. Any items that have ended up incorrectly tagged are being replaced with the correct status (and the vast majority are done).

We're also working out the best way to ensure it is easy for route builders to know which items can be used that can then be accessed by others. Note that this is not a TRS19 issue; it has been around for most of the lifetime of Trainz. The issue now is that there aren't one or two routes involved, but dozens or combinations (and hence the need to introduce systems to improve the process for both route builders and ‘general users’.

Tony Hilliam”

Perhaps, someone could enlighten me as to whether there ever was a subsequent post by N3V indicating this issue has been addressed. It doesn’t appear to be the case as in the last few days I downloaded whamm0’s superb route Oyster Bay Railroad only to find that several of the dependencies that used to be, for the most part or entirely, in the public domain, e.g., available on the DLS. The are now only available to someone who has a Gold (Platinum?) Membership.

Now if you are thinking that's no problem just upgrade to a Gold (Platinum?) Membership and all is well, think again. In my case I have taken out a yearly subscription and it appear that I cannot upgrade until the subscription period runs out. Mine doesn’t run out till January 29, 2021.

But that’s really not the point. This content was intended to be freely available. Then someone upgraded it to be compatible with TRS19 and in the process sequestered it, not that it can only be used in TRS19, but that it can only be accessed if one has a Gold (Platinum?) Membership.

Such a shame! I think whamm0 got caught unawares. He now says “My next route will be built in TANE so it can be used by more folks.” Really! Can only imagine how many hour whamm0 spent creating this superb route. It should be in TRS19.

N3V: Is there a solution to this problem? Can you at least provide on the DLS the assets for this route that are needed for non-Gold (Platinum?) users? It would allow the author and, perhaps, users to create session for this incredibly detailed route.

For those of you that haven’t discovered the Oyster Bay Railroad route it is a gem. I don’t think I have seen anything as detailed. Whamm0 says it even has “Easter Eggs”.

Come on N3V. It’s been over a year since this issue was first raised. Make this route fully available to non-Gold (Platinum?) users by un-sequestering the assets that presently are only accessible by Gold (Platinum?) members. They used to be freely available on the DLS. So, why aren’t they now?

Hi Cayden
I have checked these assets here, and it appears that many are updates to DLS assets. Once I have confirmed which are updates to DLS assets, I'll ask our content team to make sure that these are uploaded to the DLS.

However some are assets that are exclusive to specific DLC packs, such as:

<kuid2:57230:21660:1> Donner P12 GreenRock10
<kuid:57230:21755> WP12 rock05
<kuid2:82412:23043:1> TUME-23043-Scrap-Metal

The first two were provided by Jango as part of the Sebino Lake, Italy DLC pack, and this author has not released these assets on the DLS.

The last is by TUME and is part of their Season Town USA and Milwaukee Road Avery-Drexel DLC routes/DLC packs, and again the author has not released these assets onto the DLS.

The rest I will need to double check before I pass them on to our team to look into.

Regards

Thanks Cayden.

Hi Zec

First off, thank you for looking into these assets. For the remaining dlc only assets, the first two are just textures. I can replace those and just not use the third. I believe I had previously tried bulk replacing the textures, but it didn't seem to work. How can I replace those textures?

Thanks
Walter (aka whamm0)

Could you please also check on these two items as well:
