Skookumchuck - in progress

This will be my first release when finished. Still many ground textures to get right, ballast to lay and many miles of branch line to lay to industries in neighboring towns.... All terrain done by hand, completely fictional - some screens of the port industries and fishing village

Looks like a nice start, but with a name like that I expect to see an Indian owned casino somewhere...:D

Thanks guys:D Thought maybe an indian casino might end up in there haha. The place ended up taking on a life of its own as I started building and reminded me of some of the fishing ports in Washington or Alaska I've lived near, so just like there I figured it deserved a native american name. Skookumchuck is actually a reservation and a river near Centrailia, WA that bordered my pasture there.

Do a Google search and you will find that Skookum is actually a logging locomotive.

Named for "Skookum" Smith - one of the major influences / surveyors / enigineers with the Northern Pacific as they made their way north from Kalama, WA to the future terminus in Tacoma around 1865-1870. Skookum is short for Skookumchuck as in the Skookumchuck river that is near Chehalis, WA.... so far all these are Indian names.:p Sorry about the drawn out history lesson, and not to sound like an a#$, but I lived around there most of my life and Google got it messed up:hehe: The Skookumchuck river used to flood my back pasture like clockwork every October and recede in January. On a lighter note - DUDE..ELK PLAIN?? Used to live off 224th and 58th!! Right on!!

Skookumchuck is a word in the Chinook Jargon that is in common use in British Columbia English and occurs in Pacific Northwest English. Skookum means "strong" or "powerful", and "chuck" means water, so skookumchuck means "rapids" or "whitewater" (literally, "strong water"). It can mean any rapids, but in coastal usage refers to the powerful tidal rapids at the mouths of most of the major coastal inlets.

Thanks, Retro!! The boards are "track crossing 101" <kuid2:82412:611120:1> It's a built-in on TS2010EE. I used to use complete crossings pre made but found much more diversity and realism using ATLS crossings by BOAT(can be used at any angle or length). BNSF50 made tons of cool gates, lights, and crossbucks that wire into the system - even some old wigwags!:D

You know where to find me......

I'm not really happy with the streets, I need to find something a bit darker and grittier - but not plain dark asphalt. Still looking for good grass also... lots of landscaping to adjust yet, it still hasn't got the "feel" I'm after. Anybody who's been up highway 410 or 12 (or even HWY2 up Steven's Pass) in Washington knows the look I'm going for and it's difficult to duplicate here:confused:

Hi Kamran - I suppose being from the northwest US we got used to pronouncing Native American words. I can imagine it being a bit of a mouthful, it's pronounced sk - oo (like spoon) kum (like come) ch (as in change) uck (I'll leave that one alone:hehe: )- slight emphasis on enunciation ofthe first syllable, "SKUK-um-chuck";)

Have been having some serious problems. "all-of-a-sudden" I've got some major hang-up when navigating in surveyor. This didn't happen after adding any specific content, happened after a shutdown/startup of the program:confused:

Decided to remove more trees - about 40% of them across the board by copying a section of forest, pasting objects only, calling the loggers in, and paste..paste..patste..make another drink...paste some more. Still every time I open the route for edit it gets worse. Think my graphics card is giving up:(

Here's the new forest - still looks pretty good I think

I'm really liking the look of this, good work! Only thing I would change is I think the switches in the yard are spaced much to close together, yard ladders are hard to get right in TRS.

Thank you, Nikos! That's the first critical post I've had here and it's something I'm looking for:D I welcome people's opinions, advice, thoughts, etc. as I will be looking to release this one publicly as freeware. The more input I can get, the better the final product! Looking at it in that shot I have to agree. The thing I was trying to avoid there was having an "s" curve on the lead in off the ladder, although space permitting I suppose I could try to move them the other direction. I'll work on it later tonight and post an update:)
