This is a very special set to me as it ran past my house everyday when before it moved to Tacoma and went out of business. If it weren't for this train I wouldn't be into trains and I wouldn't be making this post right now.

I seemed to like the droopy cab windows and it makes those units stand out(if anyone understands what I mean).

Anyone? Anyone?

exactly what I was thinking. Wouldn't that make it not a diesel?

The fuel was named because it works well in a diesel engine, not the other way around... What it's burning doesn't change how it works, only the method for inputting fuel. If I remember correctly, this unit used some sort of coal slurry.

The first UP coal turbines were built by GE and burnt coal in a firebox. The later one was a UP creation and I am unsure of what type it was.

A diesel-electric does not require a turbine. A turbine uses the flow of a fluid to spin it and create rotational work, which can do something useful like turn a generator. In a locomotive, generally speaking, the turbine and diesel engine perform the same task, turning the generator.
