Now, if you're like me, you like Western USA roads like the SP, UP, DRGW and others, but did you know there's another? Who could forget the Utah Belt, a leader of quality service and efficient operation? I believe we need some newer UB stuff on JR, as the last UB locomotives were part of the Utah Belt Train Pack. How about some more?

Such as an SD70MAC or SD70M, can't tell.

Or even some SD40-2's?

Pair any JR UB model with the RRMods stuff and you have yourself a great consist. Don't forget the gyralights and the mars lights!
Just search "Utah Belt Locomotives" and you should find something.

Not sure if this was suggested before...

...but the Florida East Coast Railway's GP40 and GP40-2s in their 1970s-1980s guise. There isn't a lot of information about the railroad in general before 1994 for some reason given they used nothing but four axle EMD stuff for moving freight in the late-20th century. Photos exist of this equipment during the period but are hard to come by online.

Here's some general info about the FEC's fleet of GP40s (not including rebuilt locomotives from other railroads they bought beginning in the late-1980s.

  • FEC 401-410: GP40 - built from January-March 1971, Phase 2c, built without dynamic brakes.
  • FEC 411-418: GP40-2 - built in November 1972 and October 1974 in two different orders, Phase 1a2, built without dynamic brakes.
  • FEC 419-423: GP40-2 - built in October 1979, Phase 2b2, built without dynamic brakes.
  • FEC 424-429: GP40-2 - built in January and August 1980 in two different orders, Phase 2c, built without dynamic brakes.
  • FEC 430-431: GP40-2 - built in December 1984, Phase 3, only GP40-2s built with dynamic brakes. These also carried some form of Locotrol equipment on their roofs similar to Western Pacific and SP/SSW GP40-2s. I do not know what purpose this equipment was used for as I do not have any knowledge if this was ordered with mid-train helper service in mind.
  • FEC 432-434: GP40-2 - built in December 1985 and December 1986 in two different orders, Phase 3, built without dynamic brakes. 434 is the final GP40-2 ever built for any railroad. Same Locotrol equipment as above.

All of these locomotives carried Oscitrol lights before 1994-1995 when ditch lights replaced them. The GP40s before 430-434 were not originally built with roof mounted air conditioning, but these five were.

As far as paint these engines carried the following information is as follows:
  • 401-410 and 411-418 were originally delivered in navy blue with gold logos/numbers and gold and black diagonal striped pilots and frame safety stripes. The cab numbers on these were small. These were progressively updated as time went on.
  • 419-429 all wore a revised version of the above: larger cab numbers, the striping was swapped for red and white safety stripes for the pilots and frame, the noses and steps of the engines had rectangular strips carrying these safety stripes. The rear of the long hood had a larger area of these stripes than did the front nose. The logos and numbers remained the same shade of gold paint as the above.
  • 430-434 wore the above variation of the blue paint and stripe arrangement with one major difference, the logos and numbers' paint was changed to white.
  • Over time, all of these engines had their gold numbers and logos repainted white.

Horns are as follows:
  • 401-418 when originally built carried Leslie S5T/RS5T airhorns. These were progressively modified over the years by either replacing these with Leslie RS3L's or modifying the manifold by removing two bells, thus leaving it as a three chime horn.
  • 419-434 were originally built with the Leslie RS3L on the cab roof, but some photos show a single chime horn on the rear of the long hood for reverse operation. These rear horns were eventually replaced as time went on with RS3Ls.

Photos for reference (Some of these show their as delivered condition before modifications, but the information above applies when they were in FEC service:

Yes, most definitely more Frisco.

On the other hand, who doesn't like MoPac?
