Thanks, glad you like the shots! After working on summer/spring/fall routes for a while it's refreshing to finally work on a winter route again, although this is an older one so it's required a lot of updating.
On a frosty December evening, we catch train number 68, the eastbound
Commodore Vanderbilt, behind J3a Hudson number 5449. With the delivery of more lightweight cars in 1939, the
Commodore and other NYC top trains have begun receiving lightweight sleeping cars. With a mixed bag today of both heavyweight and lightweight equipment, we first catch the bullet-nosed Hudson on the outskirts of Sterling Falls, crossing Lynn avenue:
Now weaving through the maze of tracks at SF interlocking, 5449 gets the all clear on track 2 to proceed to Durant, where the engineer will pick up orders for the next block.
Later on, we catch the train further down the line on the outskirts of Oak Hill, having picked up new orders and crossed over to track 1. The long sixteen car consist leans into the sharp curve as 5449 is about to duck under the Market Avenue bridge.
Passing the Oak Hill depot now, the engineer of 5449 blasts the whistle as the train crosses Edbrook Road.
Receiving another all-clear, the engineer opens up the throttle as the
Commodore Vanderbilt charges past a set of bracket signals and onward towards New York City.
