Steamshots USA..Lets See Some Steam Shots..

In 1991, Union Pacific FEF-3 #844 and Challenger #3985 where invited to join the 1991 Railfair in Sacramento, California. At the time, #844 was wearing the UP's famous greyhound paint scheme, instead of the more common black. The two locomotives doubleheaded a special excursion to Sacramento, with the conclusion of journey being #844 steaming into the fair alongside Southern Pacific #4449.

It's a cool, crisp morning as #844 and #3985 idle at the station, while passenger board. It won't be long now until they are given the signal to proceed.

Gaining speed, #844 and #3985 move out onto the mainline.

UP #844 and #3985 battle up the grade. It will take around 12 hours to get to Sacramento, California.

I actually have four 844's, three by ANL (not currently available) and one by TrainzItalia. :D The direct link is http://www.trainzitalia.com/forum/index.php?/files/file/76-up-fef-3-836-844-tb3-3/ and you will have to be logged in.

The search path is TrainZItalia Pro → Downloads → Free Download → International → USA → Locomotives and Rolling Stock (the two packs of Challengers are there too.)

UP #836 in two tone gray with yellow stripping is included with the black and silver #844. (Created by Rudolf3610 BTW)

Thanks Normhart, the eventual plan is to skin all 25 Big Boys and release them in one mega Big Boy pack. I'm planning a trip to the Museum of Transportation in St Louis over spring break, I'll get plenty of pictures of 4006 there, along with other engines in their collection.

I do however need something other than Big Boys on my site... Hmm...

Of course you know I've done both the 4000 and 4004 although some might say mine might leave something to be desired. So far as I can tell we are both working off the same Auran meshes.

Why they chose Pennsy passenger cars I'll never understand. I mean, there is a considerable selection UP heavy weights by the same author not to mention whitepass.

If you count you can see I only have listed 71 I'm not sure why there is a discrepancy, I'll investigate. Author is listed with the first locomotive and below until the next author. Many are no longer available (and no, I won't share them unless you get the author's permission).

Excuse me, but the 30ng stuff doesn't fit on the 36ng tracks, and furthermore; there's a 30ng version of Fross and Canyon Cut on DLS now

Only one I noticed that you missed was my UP 4-4-2 Atlantic:

Yes, I am reviewing my collection. At this point I'm pretty sure I have 73 drivers assigned to 71 locomotives. I have three UP #12 4-4-2 Atlantics; yours, bdaneal's (as adapted by philskene), and bill69's but only Bill's is in this collection so far. There are also many other duplicate numbers like the 844 which is done by a couple of authors and with various paint schemes. There are also several fictional locomotives.

Interestingly when I researched the #12 I turned up this "UP #12 renumbered 1915 UP #3311 built by Baldwin #27284 Jan 1906 Vacated Apr 1923." CS Class A-2, Cabside Class-81. I was able to find a picture of UP #10 (#3309) and a picture of OWRR&N #3504.

As far as I can tell the last 4-4-2s were retired in 1933.

Edit: How busy was Cheyenne? In 1950 there were 48 FEFs, 60 Challengers, 24 Big boys, and 14 9000s working out of or through there. And that is just counting the larger locomotives. There were an additional nine locomotives assigned as Cheyenne-Buford Helpers and another four assigned as Cheyenne Protection as well as ten in Stored, eight Laid Aside, and three in the shops. Busy, busy, busy! Only three switchers were assigned to Cheyenne a 2-8-2 and two 0-6-0s and their primary task was breaking down and reassembling passenger trains.
