PBR content problem in TS2010

Hi forum users,

I have installed the PBR content (by narrowgauge) on to my TS2010 and the locomotives work fine but the rollingstock isn't showing up in surveyor.

There is an error/warning in content manager saying
'Warning: This asset requires a shadow mesh, but the mesh table does not contain one'.

Help to solve this is much appreciated,

Thanks c38nsw

I have a similar problem as I have downloaded these locomotives and rolling stock for previous versions of Trainz where they have worked fine but now I have upgraded to 2010EE they are showing up as "error" content so will be interest in any replies/help that anyone can give as I would love to use them again.

Thanks

I'll have a look at them tomorrow, watch this space.

The warning about the shadows is only a warning, not an error and will not prevent those assets from being used. Ignore them

It would help if you both could list the kuids and the problems that trouble you.

Hi Narrowguage

Thanks for taking the time to have a look at this. For me I downloaded the pack from Sir Gibby's web site and they all worked well in 2006. When I got 2010EE I used Content Manager to reload them from the origional download file that I had saved but they did not show up in 2010EE with many of the files showing faulty content and/or with warnings.

The following is a list of the ones that show up as faulty. I have also copied the Errors and Warnings message for the first one in case that helps. I have check the others and they all seem to have the same error related to the shadow.pm file

30 PBR Bogie Fox,<kuid:44700:50226>
Warning: Progressive meshes are no longer supported by Trainz. Though these meshes may work in Trainz, it is recommended that you switch to a LOD mesh.

Hi, thankyou narrowgauge for taking the time to have a look.

I also have the same problem with the error loading mesh as Longbay;

30 PBR Bogie Fox,<kuid:44700:50226>
Warning: Progressive meshes are no longer supported by Trainz. Though these meshes may work in Trainz, it is recommended that you switch to a LOD mesh.

Hi Narrowguage

An update. In view of what c38nsw origionally said I deleted my origional files and then re-downloaded just the engine files (except for the Garrett) from Sir Gibby's web site and they are working fine. I have yet to try the rolling stock but will do this some time today and let you know how that went.

I'm a bit of a novice at TS2010, but here's how I have been correcting these problems;

After every change along the way, it's worth confirming that the errors are being removed using CM's "View Errors & Warnings" menu.

For the ".pm is unsupported" warning/error, open the .pm using PEV's PM2IM utility and it will convert the .pm to a .im mesh. Delete the .pm.

If the shadow mesh is missing, open the mesh file (.im) for that object with PEV's other utility, Quickshadows. It will create a shadow.im file in the same folder. No need to add textures, it uses its own built-in black texture. Create an appropriately named folder for the shadow if one doesn't already exist (typically it will be called something like object_shadow. Refer to other working assets to see what this looks like and where to put it). Move the newly made shadow.im file to that folder, and rename it to what you want (typically it has a name like object_shadow.im).

Lastly, it's vital that the config file has a mesh-table that references the .im files of both the object and its shadow. A simple mesh-table looks like this;

mesh-table
{
default
{
mesh "gm_angreen_body/gm_angreen_body.im"
auto-create 1
}

shadow
{
mesh "gm_angreen_shadow/gm_angreen_shadow.im"
}
}

This method has worked every time for me, so I must have been doing something right for once.

Thanks for that Dinorius_Redundicus, I will give it a go and see what happens.

At the moment it seems as though it is the bogie files that are causing the problems of the rolling stock not showing up so will try Pev's conversion on them and will report back later.

Again thanks for the help from people
Longbay

You don't need to do any conversions. Just add a mesh-table container in the kuid's config.txt file, save and commit and that will clear the shadow errors.

I thought I replied to this thread after the lists were posted, obviously not. I got sidetracked.

One question.

It was not clear which content has an error and which has only a warning. Warnings you can ignore, they mean nothing to users and were added for content creator information. Errors, I will fix and upload to Trainzone and give a link here.

Just tell me just the errors. I don't find them, possibly because I fixed them some time back and forgot to upload.

Whatever you do, do NOT use CCP for fixing them, if you do it will create a completely new set of errors because it updates the build to 3.2 and much more stringent testing.

Hi Narrowguage and Dinorius_Redundicus

I have tried out Dinorius_Redundicus's suggestion and it now seems to work, the three carriagies I downloaded are now showing up in Railyard.

Narrowguage, I know what it is like when you have lots on the go at once, often happens to me at work.

The problem seems to be with the two boggy files 30 PBR Bogie Fox,<kuid:44700:50226> and 30 PBR Bogie Long,<kuid:44700:50227> as these were the ones I tried Dinorius_Redundicus's suggestion on for the .pm file and it worked and added the mesh table'' section into the config file. What I did might not be the most elegant way to do it but at least it got them working. Would you like me to send you more details of what I did? Happy to if that will help

Again, thanks for the help

You suggestion is just as I would do it except that there is really no need to convert the .pm. Using the mesh-table format with the .pm file satisfies CM3.3, you will still get a warning about the .pm file but that can be ignored. It does not ask for a shadow file.

Any one else needing the updated bogies can get them here.

Edit- All OK

You must have tried thr first one before I edited it.If you use something like Mailwasher and used the link it showed you, that was the original duff one before I changed it.

As Meatloaf says, try the new one.

Peter

Ah, he must have amended it - it had underscores in the link, so thats probably what threw it for a loop - works a treat now, cheers :)
