Need advice: Using Trainz as a design aid for real model layout.

Unfortunately the pics are not mine, they are not the F series although they would of been based on them, they were made locally.
A site that has some of the steam and all of the others of the Victorian Railways before they were privatised. http://www.victorianrailways.net/motive power/lochome.html

Well, they certainly had me fooled. Looks like these:

So they were locally made? Custom made?

Made by Clyde (Aus Division) to Victorian Railways specs, so in a way custom made :D

Prior to using Trainz I had not even come across this loco before:

In Trainz it is the ROBE locomotive used in the mine run scenario on TRS2004. It quickly became one of my favorite locos. I did do some research on them and apparently not many were made. In the North American region only 34 were built. However, the Australia division, A.E. Goodwin built 29. So that brings to total up to 63.

It appears there are two sort of related threads on this subject. I posted to another one a few minutes ago.

Below are some pictures of a virtual version of my former N-Scale Scenic & Relaxed layout from Atlas' book Nine N-Scale Layouts, edited by John Armstrong and Thadeus Stepak.

I used a 1K x 1K Basemap to hold the image, and scaled up the JPG of the layout (available on Atlas' website at www.atlasrr.com), scaling up the image to fit. The 1k x 1k Basemap fits on to a two baseboard area. Once I traced off the track with my track of choice, I then deleted the basemap object, and worked from there. Since the route fit in the middle of the two baseboards, I lowered the unused area as though the route was built on foam, and used backdrops to hide the hinderlands. In a typical model railroad fashion, I ran whatever equipment I wanted. Thus a Conrail freight and the Santa Fe Super Chief passenger train.

Is there a way you can forward that layout to me... I would like to go through it. Did you make a session and/or scenario for it?

Thanx,

Geo

What version of Trainz are you running? I made this in TS2009, and I backdated it to TRS2006. The route contains everything that's on the DLS or built-in so it should work. I did make a session too.

Here are links to the files.

If there are any problems with anything, let me know and I'll help you sort it out.

Oh! Sorry 'bout that. I am using versions 2006 and 2004, I have both on my machine.
