Kettle Valley Railway

Isn't there a tourist railroad that runs on a preserved portion of this route? Looks like a pretty interesting route to take on, I look forward to seeing further progress on this one. Keep up the good work. :)

Yes there is: https://www.kettlevalleyrail.org/

Thanks Matt I'll try to post as I go. I'm re-tracking the entire route right now, I've done Hope to almost Princeton.
Cheers,
--Michael.

Looking forward to seeing this route. I understand that it had many spectacular trestles some of which have survived to this day. I recall a few being destroyed by a forest fire a few years ago closing down a portion of the route that had been converted to a hiking trail.

Hi Cayden;

Yes, many trestles in The Myra Canyon area were destroyed by a forest fire.

This trestle over -I think - Bellevue creek was replaced with a steel trestle which is there today.

This is a shot of some of the Myra Canyon trestles.

A good site: http://www.myra-trestles.com/

Thanks!

PS I ride your 1887 Roger's Pass route when I need to relax.

Thanks Jack et merci Pierre;

Hello;

I'm finished the re-tracking of the leg from Belfort to West Summerland.
The las shot of decorated landscape until Faulder:

Many miles later, entering Faulder:

(I use a TGV running at 200 mph to test the track. Much faster :)

Next leg is from Pentiction to Midway.
Cheers,
--Michael.

The original route was done with a package like microDEM or transDEM, I don't know which, but TransDEM fixes things, as shown previously. One of the issues with the transition from TRS 2010 -> TS12 -> TAN:E, is the draw distance. This isn't important if the route is in a valley. But when the route is higher than the surroundings, one can see a long way. Voids in the route are now glaring apparent.
In TRS 2010 at the maximum draw distance of 5000 metres:
c981dfdb2b2629de4e873e44c18d1ec6.jpg
[/IMG]
and then to TAN:E - 15000 metres:

[/IMG]
These shots are both taken from Glenfir looking West. The signpost is visible in all three shots.

I thought: not so good. So I fired up TransDEM, started here:

[/IMG]

(areal view in Trainz) and after a lot of fiddling, I got to here:

[/IMG]
again a Trainz view;

There are 6 separate TransDEM created routes with each route merged with the base route. (TransDEM does rectangles only, I think. I know how to do rectangles in TransDEM)

This next shot shows how well the merged route fits into the original.

The View (from Glenfir) of the patched route:

I'm very pleased with TransDEM and pleased with the outcome of my 'fiddling'. I have, at least two more places to patch and a major chunk to add.

For now I'm now placing roads from McCulloch Station to Midway.

Have a nice day;
Cheers

Thats looking great - one day I will need to learn how to use all these tarrain creation tools as well, because I will need it to create further terrain for my Milwaukee Road Project.
Perhaps I will need to ask you kindly if I need some help.

BTW: I face the same effect at some (two or three) places alongside the Avery-Drexel Route.

Keep up your good work and enjoy creating your route.

Your's TUME

You're doing the right thing by adding more baseboards to the map, Michael. When you crank up the draw distance in Tane the edges of the map become easy to see. I started my route in Trainz12, 4 boards to either side of the track. I quickly found that wasn't enough after porting the route into Tane. You're doing a terrific job. This will be a great route when you're done and well worth the effort.

Cheers, Jack

Hi Folks;

An update: I have added the line from Brodie to Merritt and then on the the CPR mainline at Spence's Bridge:

The TransDEM data shows the extension has 1338 baseboards and is 55 km North-South:

That's coming along nicely Michael but I see it will keep you out of trouble for some time yet. Looking good so far! I am wondering about the castle tower in a couple of the screenshots. Was there such a building there? I see other buildings that look European. I know Kimberly has a Swiss atmosphere.

Cheers, Jack

I get tired of boring old farm houses, so I indulge in fantasy from time-to-time. Tonight supper is not for a while, so I remembered this spot; Its in the valley-one-to-the-west of the Nicola Valley; same route, but done 3 years ago; took a couple of screens. You can see in the distance the village of Brookmere. When I was doing roads here I found a lookout - it's real. I added a medieval watchtower etc., to warn Brookmere residents of any approaching Goths.

Since it became a tourist attraction, I needed a place to eat and a hotel maybe...

That's enough whimsey for today. More later...

Thanks for the explanation Michael. Perhaps some knights in armour or a dragon perched on the tower?

Cheers, Jack

I don't have any knights or dragons. Will The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse do? The Headless Horsemen is there too. Keeping them company.

Hehehe.

Thanks for cheering up the day. And please keep posting those great shots.
Thanks
--Michael.
PS I noticed some billboard trees. I must have missed that part of the route when I was updating trees. Thanks!
