C39-8

ya know, i was on one of these the other day and i was thinking... 'man this thing is ugly'...lol

well i dont think there will be one of these from this neck of the woods any time soon. i am interested, but not for some time.

Yeah it is unfortunate that they are obsolete by bigger and more powerful diesel locomotives but they did have useful lives, and I agree with you that it would be nice if one can be made for trainz but we have to wait for it which I see problem in doing.

Never Saw one...

Unfourtunately, I have never been able to see a C39-8 with my own eyes. The only way I realy found out about them were the T&W Productions videos. T&W is a local company that films trains, I buyor wach one when I feel like I won't be able to railfan any time soon. They got several C39-8s at Salisbury in 2001.

I wonder if any shortline will buy any before they are all scrapped?

MSTS

Diesels West and Maple Leaf Tracks both sell payware C39-8s and Train-sim.com has a few repaints of them. I have them all!:D

Hello farthegn

I have pushed for a C39-8 multiple times on this forum and others. However few, if any, have any interest in building such a model (as unique as it is). In fact, most people find it downright ugly.

Your best bet would be to fire up gmax/blender and start fooling with that. Work your way up, acquire some drawings, and build it yourself. I have no real free time to learn modeling in either of those programs, otherwise, I would've taken up the offer years ago!:p

Truly ugly...truly...

 Yes, the old "techno-toaster" C39-8 is mocked as not purty!

I would like to see the NS & Conrail versions, NS being bi-directional single controller long hood forward of course!

I would also like to have the C32-8 in Conrail paint. One of the small fleet of these Conrail engines was involved in an accident & the cab was replaced with a Dash 840B cab, the #6612. And of course these were repainted into the Conrail Ballast Express scheme.

The C32-8 used the same frame length & layout as the C30-7...as a suggestion.

Just because they are not now done does not mean they won't ever be done!

The Trainz Asset Creation Studio for gmax can produce a quality model in .im format. Joram24 over at RRMods has an open offer to finish out the mesh for a fee...possibly including bump mapping, although I've heard that there is a work around for gmax to this effect.

gmax does have a steep learning curve kind of like ). If your self teaching it can be done using the gmax Bible, gmax Handbook & the many tutorials offered throughout the Auran Trainz Community...it took me less than a year to learn how to use gmax & along with texturing it should take less than two years, sooner if you go to school...

But you have to decide what your going to do...then just do it!

D8B Prototypes

There were 2 other "B" unit prototypes that were very simular to the C39 & C32-8s.
3 BN B32-8s & 3 ATSF B39-8s they all were scrapped in the early 90's. One of them is still junked in Erie, PA.
